Dialogue で
① I thought you were (going to the library to study).
👉時制の一致が起こっています。
主節の動詞 (thought) が過去なら、従属節の中の動詞 (were) の過去。
過去 – 過去 の連鎖となるわけです。英語のクセですね。
② the library
👉もうお互いが知っている「いつもの」library – 図書館というわけですから、
the が普通です。
③ You must really like her.
👉ここの must は「〜に違いない」と確信を表す助動詞です。
④ But don’t you (get tired of listening to her political ranting)?
👉 Don’t you 〜？は、意外・心外あるいは同意を求める気持ちを表す
否定疑問文です。
⑤ tired of 〜
👉「〜にあきあきする、うんざりする」というフレーズです。
⑥ political ranting
👉政治的な ranting – 熱弁というわけです。
