Words and Phrases 

● nurture ▶︎育成する
– To help, to encourage development, to provide
support or resources for someone or something to be
successful.
– Melati talked about nurturing a new generation of
changemakers, meaning helping and supporting them.

● carry out ▶︎実行する
– To carry out is to do something like performing a task,
doing the work.
– For example, the plan should be carried out immediately,
or the plan should be put into action immediately.

● stick with 〜 ▶︎〜を続ける
– To stay with, to follow.
In the interview, Melati thanked the listeners for sticking with
us through the conversation. In other words, she wanted to
thank the listeners for staying with them all the way 
until the end of the conversation.

● willingness ▶︎やる気
– Being ready and wanting to do something.
Be prepared for something, consent.
– For example, he has a strong willingness to help others.
So I think you can make a great doctor.

● identify ▶︎見つける
– Find, point out or establish.
 Melati said, “to identify an SDG that catches your attention.”
That means to find, pinpoint, or think about which ones 
catch your attention.

● catch one’s attention ▶︎〜の関心を引く
– To spark interest, to find interesting.
Something that attracts attention will catch your attention.
 We can also say “grab one’s attention.” as in “this artwork
really grabbed my attention.”

● good cause▶︎よいこと
– A cause is something that you want to defend or are 
in favor of. A good cause is a cause that’s useful for 
society or the environment.
If you want to do something for a good cause,
it means you feel it’s worth doing and I can help others.
