Words and Phrases
● disarmed ▶︎警戒心を持っていない
– To let one’s gun down, to feel at ease, not being on high
alert. Mr. Brule said that good parties are in an environment
where people feel disarmed, or in other words, relaxed, at ease.
They don’t have to hold back.
● go out of business▶︎倒産する
– Closing a business for good, or forever.
Losing a business.
● take over ▶︎買収する
– To take control of something, to gain control,
possession or responsibility of something.
● within no time ▶︎あっという間に
– A very short period of time, almost instant, quickly.
It gives the impression that it’s surprising how quickly
something happens.
– For example, I bought a new guitar, and started practicing.
I was playing full songs within no time.
● prompt ▶︎促す
– To cause, to bring about, to encourage someone or
something toward an action.
– An example would be “What prompted you to start?” or
“What motivated you to start?”
– This is not to be confused with the adjective “prompt,”
which means “quick or speedy.”
● get 〜 up and running ▶︎〜を立ち上げる
– To get something operational, to get something working.
– For example, if you buy a new computer, it might take
a while to get it up and running after setup and software
updates.
Upgrade Your Questioning Skills
① 「活字離れ」
👉「活字離れ」には aliteracy という単語があるんですが、
日常的には使われないので、become less interested in printed content
のように噛み砕いて説明する必要があります。
② negative な内容を含む時は…
👉 postive なフレーズを使うのが効果的。
厳しい環境に対して、
例えば、How do you cope with that? と聞くより、
「強み – competitive advantage」について聞く方が
前向きに聞こえますね。
