Words and Phrases
● backing ▶︎裏付け
– Help or support. In the interview, Udana says that
mindfulness has a lot of research backing or is backed
up by research.
– In other words, mindfulness has a lot of research to
support its claims.
● conduct ▶︎行う
– Something that was carried out or done.
To conduct something means to do in a particular way.
● experiment ▶︎実験
– Experiments are tests.
Udana mentioned that research scientists have conducted
experiments or carried out tests in research around
mindfulness.
● justify ▶︎正当化する
– To show or prove that something is correct or reasonable.
To reason or show good reasons.
– For example, we often do a cost benefit analysis to justify
or validate an expense.
– We also have the saying that the end justifies the means,
meaning that the questionable methods used are OK
because of the favorable outcome.
● credible ▶︎信憑性のある
– Convincing something that can be believed, something or
someone that is trusted or taken seriously.
– A credible source is a reliable source of information.
Someone who is credible is honest and believable.
– For example, he is not a doctor. So he is not a credible
source for medical advice.
● evaluate ▶︎評価する
– To determine a value, significance, or worth of something.
To appraise, to think about what works and what doesn’t work.

– Scientific research in the last decade shows that mindfulness
