引き続き基本動詞のイメージをつかみ
「日本語を経由せず、英語を使う力」を養います。

👉 come のイメージは「やってくる」
※ Lesson 29から come を扱っています。

Opening

▶︎ Nothing comes to mind.

▶ Oh, no! That was my opening, too.
Chris MacVay here. I guess we’d just better start, huh.

Dialogue で

① I’ve decided to sell all my figures.
👉 さあ、ここでは I’ve decided となっていましたね。
今、そうした決意をもっているというわけですね。
今の状態にフォーカスした形になっている現在完了形です。

② I thought you loved collecting character figures.
👉 さあ、ここで I thought you loved と時制の一致が起きていることに
注意してくださいね。I thought 思ったのが過去なら、thought の内容を
展開するその節も過去になる、というわけです。
👉そして、you loved collecting character figures となっていましたね。
love の後ろ ing のかたまりを使うことももちろんできます。
「キャラクター・フィギュアを集めることがー好き」という表現ですね。

③ I’ve outgrown this hobby.
👉ここでは、I’ve outgrown というですね、なかなかこった単語が
使われていました。outgrow というのは、「〜を卒業する」
「〜を脱却する」というわけですね。

④ What should we buy with the money you get □?
👉さあここでは、the money you get 関係代名詞節による修飾が行われ
ていますね。非常に気軽な形なんですよ。the money それを説明する
you get というわけです。「あなたは□を手に入れる」□のある you get と
money が結びついて、「あなたが手に入れるーお金」となっているわけです。

▶︎ OK, guys. Let’s practice “come.” Here the image is simply
the opposite of “go.” Instead of moving away from a starting point,
the feeling is approaching from a distant point until it reaches this place.
So with that image in mind, let’s practice together, OK?

Roza
▶︎ And remember! Don’t think in Japanese.

▶︎ Good point, Roza. First example. After me.
・The time has come for me to make a decision.
You notice that “come” can be used with abstract notions as well like this,
the time. So the time has come from a distant point, it’s approaching, approaching, approaching , and now it’s arrived.
Once more.
・The time has come for me to make a decision.
That’s it.

▶︎ Here’s the next example.
・come as a surprise / come cheap / come in three sizes

▶︎ OK. Let’s move on.
・come to like / come to understand / come to know
So from a point of not liking, not understanding, not knowing, approaching, approaching, approaching until you like, you understand, you know.
So let’s get that feeling , and practice after me.

▶︎ And in the last example, it’s the same kind of thing.
・Your speech comes after lunch.
The speech is approaching, approaching, approaching, and it comes after lunch. So let’s try together.
