12月のテーマも、判断を表現する

👉今年度は…
「感謝したい」「頼み事をしたい」といった、
発言のタイプ別おすすめ表現を多数学びます。
などへとゆっくり進めていきます。

◎12月は
▶︎先月に引き続き「発言タイプ」ー【判断を表現する】を勉強します。
「失敗」「成功」「類似・同一・相違」や「決定」「決意表明」「相手の都合を尋ねる」など
「これから」に関わる表現を学んでいきましょう。

Lesson 169 発言タイプ：これから② 決める１

👉これから② 決める１ー「決定・決心」の基本表現
▶︎今回は、決定にまつわるさまざまな基本表現を学びましょう。

会話の場面

登場人物

・デスパレード・ラッツのボーカル：ビル・バンガロー (Bill)
・バンドマネージャー：シンシア (Cynthia)

状況

・ビルとシンシアが、スタジオで「新曲」のヒットチャートの成績について話しています。

Opening で

Roza
▶︎ Hi. everyone. This is Akino Roza.

David
▶︎ And I’m David Evans. I hope that grasshopper is getting ready for the coming winter.

Dialogue で

① What about it? 【 What about 〜？のニュアンス】
👉 What about 〜？これは、相手に説明を求める表現ですね。
「〜がどうしたのですか」というニュアンスです。

② I thought you would be.【時制の一致】
👉ここの thought と would – 時制の一致が行われています。
過去(形) – 過去(形) の連鎖ですね。

③ Everything’s going so well for us now. 【動詞の使い方を押さえる】
👉さあ、everything’s going so well – こういう動詞の使い方ができたら、英語力も本物です。
go は「進んでいく」というニュアンスで使われている、というわけです。

Practice

▶︎ OK, everyone. It’s time to practice. These phrases are not very difficult.
So try to focus more on the rhythm and the way you say them.

David
▶︎ That’s right. With these kinds of chunks, we just put them in our pocket, and
take them out whenever we need. Here we go!
・I made a quick decision to 〜.
・I made a snap decision to 〜.
All right. Now let’s try some different adjectives.
・I made a different decision to 〜.
・I made a big decision to 〜.
・I made a tough decision to 〜.
・I made a poor decision to 〜.

Roza
▶︎ OK. Let’s continue.
・I’ve reached a decision to 〜.
・I’ve come to a decision to 〜.

David
▶︎ Great work, so far. Let’s keep going.
・That was a tough call.

Roza
▶︎ OK. Here’s our last few.
・It’s your call.
・That’s for you to decide.
・It’s up to you.
