私たちが日々行なっている、可能性や重要性、難易、優先などの判断を精度高く
表現することが目標です。

▶︎今回は、少し難しい「相手が間違っていることを指摘する」表現を学びましょう。
会話の場面

状況
・久しぶりにピーコック教授と会ったジェシカが、結婚相手のアキについて話をしています…
Opening で
Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. This is Akino Roza. Ready for today’s lesson?
David
▶︎ And I’m David Evans. I know I am. Let’s get to it!
Dialogue で
① You can say that again.【 しみじみとした同意 】
👉これは、lesson で学んだことのあるフレーズですね。
しみじみとした同意を表します。
② So, you married your old flame.【 marry は他動詞 】
👉さあ、 marry という動詞が使われていいます。その後ろに、with が使われずに直接、
目的語を取っている形に注目してくださいね。with を使ってはいけません。
▶︎そして、「昔の恋人」という意味で (old) flame と言う単語が使われています。
Why does “flame” mean “sweetheart”?
– David：Oh, in English, we compare “romance” to “fire” quite often.
– Roza：Yeah, so often times you’ll hear people say “My heart burns for you.”
So “flame” is a very appropriate image.
③ Congratulations! 【いっぱいの「おめでとう」-s 】
👉さあ、「おめでとう」と言うとき、Congratulations! -s を落とさないで下さいね。
「おめでとう」がいっぱいという感じがする -s です。
④ I’m so happy for you. 【 口からスラリ出なければいけない表現 】
👉そして、I’m so happy for you. 「私もとてもうれしく思う。」という、非常になんてこと
のない 文ですが、反射的に、この文を言えるかどうかが大きな問題です。言えそうになかったら、
しっかり と音読暗唱をお願いします。
⑤ How are things with you? 【 相手の調子を尋ねる表現 】
👉これは、相手の調子を聞く、非常によく使われる表現です。まとめて覚えてください。

be confrontational. They prefer to be non-confrontational. Today’s phrases
practice being indirect of or soft about disagreeing someone.
