3月のテーマは「発言の流れを作る重要表現」　

👉３月は、２月に引き続き流れ「フロー」についての学習です。

Lesson 222 目的を表すフロー

「目的」を表す手軽な手段▶︎ to 不定詞を使うこと
※「目的」だけでなく、文脈で「結果」「原因」「判断の根拠」などの意味を帯びる

Opening で

Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. Akino Roza here.

Chris
▶︎ Hi, guys. Chris McVay here. Roza, can I ask you something?

Roza
▶︎ Sure, go ahead. I hope I can answer.

Chris
▶︎ Just practicing.

Roza
▶︎ Me too.

Dialogue で

① What’s going on with Raj in our Mumbai office?
👉さあ、ここで What’s going on? というフレーズが出てきましたね。
これは「何が起こっているのか」というフレーズです。何かちょっと問題を
感じている時に使うフレーズなんですね。
▶︎そして go on というわけです。
go は、その事態が進んでいく様子、そして on は、それが進み続けている様子。
それを表して go on となっているわけです。

② Oh, he’s fine, but I forgot to tell you.
👉さあ、he’s fine というわけですね。
「何も問題ありません」という表現です。
▶︎そして、forget to の過去形 forgot to が出てきましたね。
to は「これから」がニュアンスとして感じられ、「これから何かをするのを忘れまし
た」というわけですね。「あなたに言うのを忘れました」というわけです。

③ I wanted to email him so I could ask for his help again.
👉さあ、wanted の後ろに to 不定詞が来ていますね。
want は「これから〜したい」という動詞。従って、「これから」がニュアンスとして
感じられる to 不定詞と結びつくんだよ、というわけですね。
しっかりと覚えておきましょう。
