👉 「すべての」と訳される all と every
▶︎ all は全体をひっくるめる「全部」という大らかな単語
▶︎ every は「どの〜もみんな」- 個々に意識が及んでいるため「単数扱い」

Opening で

Thanks for joining us for all the lessons. I mean every lesson.

Chris
▶︎ Hi, guys. Chris McVay here. Now did you know the French have
a nick name for British people? They call them the “rosbif,” because
we eat it so much.

Dialogue で

① We used to eat it every Sunday.
👉さあ、ここでは We used to eat it every Sunday. と it が使われていますけれど、
roast beef と mashed potato – この２つのものを表しているように見えるのに、
それを受ける代名詞が it なのは、なぜでしょうか。
So why is “it” used here?
▶︎ Well, it’s easy. Roast beef and mashed potato are considered to be
a dish, just one unit. Therefore the singular is used.

② And I mean every plate.
👉 And I mean … というフレーズが出て来ましたね。自分の真意をしっかりと
正確に伝えようとする – そうした意識が表れたフレーズです。

③ Mom always does the dishes.
👉 do the dishes – これは「食器を洗う」というフレーズ。
しっかりと覚えておきましょう。

Practice

▶︎ Hey, it’s practice time. Today we’re looking at “all” and “every.”
Now the basic difference is “all” is considered as “one block”
while “every” pinpoints each individual one in the group.
That’s why it takes the singular verb. Let’s practice.

▶︎Continuing on. Let’s practice with the word “their.”
・Every child has their own room.

Can you feel that one block? “All students” one block. Think like that.
