👉12月は、副詞・限定詞について勉強をします。

👉 up は「上」▶︎「地面から、にょきにょき出てくる」イメージもあり。
Opening で
Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. This is Akino Roza. Ready for today’s lesson?
Chris
▶︎ Hi, guys. Today the train stopped. So I ended up coming to the studio
by hitchhike.
Roza
▶︎ Nice one, Chris.
Chris
▶︎ Anyway, I hope you’re all looking forward to today’s lesson!
Dialogue で
① Mr. Emori, what’s wrong?
👉 What’s wrong? これは人や機械の調子が悪い時にたずねる決まり文句ですね。
② You’re not your usual smiling self.
👉そしてここでは、your usual smiling self というフレーズが出てきましたね。
your usual self「いつものあなた」それに smiling がくっついて
「いつも笑顔のあなた」そうしたフレーズを作っているわけですね。
覚えといてください。
③ He had organized a haiku reading for all the members.
But he didin’t show up.
👉さあ、ここで He had organized というですね、過去完了形が出てきました。
もちろん、これは「彼は現れなかった」– その時よりも「前に計画していたのだ」
ということ – その時系列をですね、明らかにするためここを過去完了形にして
いるわけです。
④ So, you didn’t have the gathering?
👉 gathering これは「会合」ですね。
⑤ …but everyone was looking forward to hearing his haiku.
👉さあ、ここで look forward to というフレーズが出てきましたね。
「〜を楽しみにする」というわけです。to の後ろは、動詞句的内容がくる時は、
動詞 ing形 – ここでは hearing となるわけです。

▶︎ OK, guys. It’s practice time again.
And today we’re looking at the word “up.” Now it has a simple image of
movement in an upward direction. But I think you’re going to be amazed
by how this naturally leads to a massive variety of uses.
It might mean more work for you, though.
Anyway, let’s get started with the practice.

You’d better just think in English when you practice, OK?
