👉 any のイメージ▶︎「何でも・どれでも」-聞き手に選択の自由を与える表現

Opening で

Roza
▶︎ Akino Roza here.

Chris
▶︎ Chris McVay here. Wow! we’re getting so close to the end of
the year. Time flies, doesn’t it?

Roza
▶︎ You can say that again.

Dialogue で

① we’re about to finish another year?
👉さあ、ここで about to 「〜しそう」というフレーズが出て来ましたね。
about は「周りにある」ということですね。「どこそこに向かう、その周りに
いる」というところから「〜しそう」というニュアンスとなるわけです。

② Time flies, doesn’t it?
👉 Time flies. これは「時が過ぎるのが速い」という決まり文句ですね。
▶︎そしてここでは、付加疑問文の形となっています。
元の文が３単現の動詞を含む肯定文であるため、付加される疑問形は
doesn’t it? – 否定疑問文となるわけです。

③ That’s for sure.
👉for sure これは「確かに」というフレーズですね。
しっかり覚えましょう。

④ What about Onishi-sensei?
👉 What about 〜？「〜についてはどうですか」そうしたフレーズですが、
見落としについて喚起する – そうしたフレーズになっています。
「大西先生については、どうなのかな？」

⑤ Yes, he complimented me on my acting.
👉さあ、ここでは complimented me on my acting というフレーズに
なっていましたよね。compliment (人) on 〜で、〜のことで (人)を褒める、
そうしたフレーズを作っています。

⑥ I would take any compliment he gave me.
👉 さあ、ここの would ですね、「私だったら〜でしょう」- 仮定を折り込んだ
would の使い方となっています。

▶︎ OK, it’s practice time again.
Today we’re looking at the word “any.” The basic image of “any” is
freedom of choice. If you imagine a magician doing a typical card trick,
he might say, “Pick a card, any card.” So you can choose whichever of
the fifty three cards.
That might help you when you want to use this word, “any.”
Let’s practice together.
