👉差し迫った、すぐ近くの
Dialogue で
① It was my break time.
👉この it はもちろん「状況」を指しています。
「その時の状況は、休憩時間だったのです」というわけです。
② I forgot to turn down 〜.
👉「これから〜すること」を忘れる、というto不定詞 – それと
forget「忘れる」の過去形 – forgot が結びついています。
③ We thought there had been 〜.
👉少し難しいコンビネーション。もちろん「時制の一致」です。
We thought「私は考えました」- でもアクシデントが起こったのは
We thought の前。▶︎それを明らかにするために、さらに前に
過去完了形 had been が使われているわけです。
※主動詞 thought よりも「前」だということを明確にする
– それがここで「過去完了形」が用いられた動機です。

– 必ず音読暗唱を加えてください。覚えたものは、必ず使うことができます。

“obviously,” you expect something to follow, right?

▶︎Actually, in real life, my older brother, who’s a chef, loves to have
barbecues, but nine times out of ten when he plans a barbecue,
it pours (with?) down with rain.
So as soon as I think of rain, I think of “barbecue.”
Roza
▶︎That’s because he’s in England, right?
Chris
▶︎That’s right. That doesn’t help.
