Review をします。
それでは第 28 週 ( 10月 Week 4 )の復習です。
※前置詞学習の12週目なので、前置詞の Review ⑫とします。
前置詞の Review ⑫
・ Week 28 は、前置詞 through, from と of 学習しました。

Lesson 136 through のイメージ
| 🔴 through のイメージ ▶︎「筒状のものを通り抜ける」 ※トンネルを通過する電車を想像するといいでしょう |
[Key] We’ll get through this.
※私たちはこの状況を乗り越えますよ。
▶︎この文で使われた、「動き」の get と組み合わされた get through は
「通り抜ける」- 比喩的にあ「困難などを克服する」ということ。
| ① 基本的な「通り抜ける＝通して」という使い方 ※ talked through the interpreter [ 通訳を通して ] ※ Please let me through. [ 人混みを通して ] ※ We made it through with your help. [ with your help のプロセスを通して ] |
| ② go through with は「やり抜く・やり遂げる」 ※ We have to go through with it. [ with 〜 は約束や計画などのつながり ] – go through a lot 「多くの苦難を経験する」 |
| ③トンネル状の「端から端まで」場所にも時間にも使える ※ traveled through Japan / from Monday through Friday ※ all through my life / all through the night |
| ④トンネル状のものを通り抜ける – ことから「終わる」を連想 ※ We are through. |

※日本のカレーは私たちのものとはかなり違うのでしょう？
▶︎この文の different は「異なった」。
何と異なっているのがその「距離」が from で示されています。

| ④ from の距離感が「区別」につながる ※ Many Japanese people can’t tell good Indian food from bad Indian food. – can tell A from B 「AとBを区別することができる」 |

▶︎この文は He’s my friend. とニュアンスが大きく異なる。
・my friend が「私が所有する大切な友達」と胸に抱きしめるような感覚
・a friend of mine は a friend を mine で説明
「友達のひとりですよ、私のね」と至って淡白な意味合い
| ① of 〜 は前の名詞に「説明」を加える ※ a member of the team [ a member を a team で説明 ] ※ a corner of the room / a cup of coffee ※ a photo of Lucy [ Lucy を撮った写真 ] – a photo of Lucy’s 「1枚の写真ですよ、ルーシーが所有する写真のね」 |
| ② of の「説明」は文脈次第 ※ the problem of finding new energy sources [ 同格 ] ※ the discovery of new species [ discovery の意味上の目的語 ] ※ Death of a Salesman [ death の意味上の主語 ] |
| ③ of は「原料・理由」も表すが、from のような強さはない ※ This chair is made of wood. – Cheese is made from milk. – from：cheese と milk が見た目離れているため、その距離感を from で表す – of：chair が tree で作られているのは一目瞭然。そのため「軽く」説明 |

※私はなんて配慮に欠けていたのでしょう。
▶︎ここでは thoughtless に「私がね」と、誰が thoughtless なのか
について説明を加えているのです。
| ① Key Sentence と同じ使い方 ※ That’s so kind of you. – so kind と述べてから、of you と誰が親切なのかを説明しています。 |
| ② of は「名詞で説明」 ※ This matter is of importance. ※ of [ great / extreme / some ] importance ※ of [ little / no ] importance – of importance は、全体として important と変わらぬ意味となる。 そのため、さまざまな形容詞 ( great, little など ) でニュアンスを加える |
| ③ sure / afraid の内容を of を使って名詞で説明 ※ I’m sure of your success. ※ Chris is afraid [scared] of spiders. |
| ④ dream「夢を見る」of 以降は何を思い描いていたのかを説明 ※ I’ve dreamed of going there. |
