👉 on には ▶︎「継続」を表す使い方がある
※この使い方は on が「線上」を表すことから生じている

Opening で

Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. This is Akino Roza here.
Welcome back and let’s get started.

Chris
▶︎ Hi, guys. Chris McVay here.
Yes, let’s enjoy our English practice together.

Dialogue で

① Terrific!
👉さあ、ここで terrific「素晴らしい」という形容詞が出てきました。
逆は terribleですね。この terrific という単語これはもともと
terror「恐れ」とか terrify 「怖らがせる」とか、そうした種類の単語なんですね。
それが意味を極端に変えて、terrific「恐ろしいぐらい – 素晴らしい」まあ、
そんな意味に逆転してしまっているわけなんです。

② Ellie Lansing, the astronomer.
👉さあ、Ellie Lansing と言った後、the astronomer というですね、
表現を加えています。つまり同格表現なんですね。もちろん、「説明は後ろに置く」
– 説明ルールの例に過ぎません。

③ She must have really liked you, then.
👉さあ、must have これは「〜だったに違いない」- 過去の出来事について
「今〜に違いない」と言っている、そうした形ですね。

We’re going to keep on practicing “on.” Now you know the basic image of
contact or touching. Now you imagine touching a line, and on the line
we have movement – movement along the line.
So with that in mind, let’s practice together.
