Lesson 6４文の説明④：動詞-ing形

▶︎英語は「配置の言葉」
– 語順は「基本文型」と「修飾語順規則」によって決まる。
– Lesson 1 から 9 までは「修飾語順規則」を扱いました。

▶︎Lesson 11 からは Lesson 40までは
「基本文型」の基本を学んできました。

▶︎Lesson 31 から Lesson 53 までは、
節・to不定詞・動詞-ing形・動詞原形・過去分詞の拡張について勉強し、
Lesson 54, 56 では「リポート文の拡張」を学習しました。

▶︎Lesson 57 〜 59 で「命令文」と「there 文」を扱いました。

👉７月号からは、「説明ルール」を具体的に見ていくようです。

▶︎Hey, listeners. Chris McVay here. You know,
nobody listens to me. It’s like I’m talking to myself.

Onishi
▶︎It’s only natural, isn’t it?

Chris
▶︎You see what I mean?

Dialogue で

① in the same class
👉 もちろん smae と来たら、それは同じものに決まってくる
わけですから the をつけて – the same。これをもう口ぐせに
してみてください。

② I’m just joking. 「ちょっと冗談を言っただけだよ」
👉これもまとめて覚えましょう。便利なフレーズです。

③ talking on the phone
👉 talking on the phone – on が使われています。もちろん、
その機器の機能の上に乗っかって talk するわけですから、
ステージ上のものを想像します。
▶︎この on 使い方にぴったりですよね。

④ holding a phone
👉 hold というのは体の一部を使って、何かを固定する –
そうしたことを表すわけです。”持っていた”というわけです。

▶︎So is it possible to use “have” like “he wasn’t having a phone”?

Roze
▶︎No, it’s not possible. Please don’t ever use it like that.

▶︎Impossible.

◎文の説明④：動詞-ing形

🔴動詞-ing形を並べて、説明(分詞構文とも呼ばれます)
▶︎動詞-ing形のイメージ
「生き生きとした行動の描写(〜している)」
※この文では、同時に起こっている出来事を説明しています。
– He was walking in the park,
⇨同時に起こっていることを説明：talking to himself.

OK, guys. Are you ready to practice?
As usual, catch the native speakers’ feeling about sentences.
– He was walking in the park, talking to himself.
Now we want to explain the main part – “he was walking in
the park” – and something is happening at the same time.
▶︎So we can use “ing” – talking to himself.

Are you ready to practice? After me!
– He was walking in the park, talking to himself.

Not so bad! A little bit more of this feeling of something happening
at the same time with “ing”.
– He was walking in the park, talking to himself. Last chance, go!
