Lesson 2４基本文型説明型④:(that)節・if/whether 節を説明語句に

▶︎英語は「配置の言葉」
– 語順は「基本文型」と「修飾語順規則」によって決まる。
– Lesson 1 から 9 までは「修飾語順規則」を扱いました。

▶︎Lesson 11 からは「基本文型」を扱っています。
– 英語文中の表現配置の中で最も大切なのが、
文の設計図である「基本文型」

👉今回は、「説明型」の４回目です。

Opening で

みなさん、こんにちは。

Dialogue で

① refrigerator について

Chris, what is the short form
of this word?

“Fridge.” Much easier, right?

How about American English?

An even better one, “fridge.”

Oh, wow! I didn’t know that

② I should fit.

👉この should は「〜するはず」という表現
※ should は「進むべき道」- 何かこう進むべき道が、一本道が
目の前にあるような、そうした感触を受ける助動詞です。
◎「この道を進んでいくことが大事」
▶︎「〜すべきだ」という意味につながります。
◎「事態は、この道をそって転がっていくだろう」
▶︎「〜するはずだ」という意味につながるのです。

③ 〜 what are you going to do?

👉be going to は「進んでいるところ」「進んでいる途中」
ということ。ですから、「現在」に何か原因があるわけです。
その原因によって、今、to 以下の状況に進んでいく、その
途中にある、という表現です。
※「今、明らかに冷蔵庫が入らない」という現在の事実が
あるわけです。その事実を踏まえながら、「どうしようか」
という表現に、be going to に用いられるわけです。

④ I’ll
👉I will のことですが、これは be going to と随分違った「未来」
を表しています。これは、「〜するよ」と「意思」を表しています。

OK, guys. Are you ready to practice with me?
So the point to keep in mind here is that even though
we have a long phrase “it won’t fit into the house” used here,
you can treat it as a short phrase, just like “a dog.”
– So the problem is it won’t fit into the house.
The problem is – short phrase – “it won’t fit into the house.”
If you think about it like that, you should have no problem.
– Repeat after me.
– Great job.
