7月のテーマは、動かす② 指示・依頼

「感謝したい」「頼み事をしたい」といった、
発言のタイプ別おすすめ表現を多数学びます。
などへとゆっくり進めていきます。

◎そのために
▶︎７月も６月に引き続き、「発言タイプ」についてで
人をある方向に「動かす」言語活動の②です。

Lesson 68 発言タイプ：指示⑦ 基本的な注意を行う表現

👉指示③ 必要性に基づいた指示
▶︎「〜する必要がある」「やるべきことは〜だけ」と「必要性」に基づき指示を出す
表現を学びましょう。

会話の場面

登場人物

・会社の同僚アズサ (Azusa) とノーラン (Nolan)

状況

・ノーランがアズサにランチを誘っています。話題になっていたスペイン料理店なので
すが、なぜかアズサは断っているようです。

Opening で

Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. Akino Roza here.

David
▶︎ And I’m David Evans. Your puns are excessive, but all shoulder that
burden.

Dialogue で

① Why not?【英語は文脈の not をカウントしない】
👉さあ、ここでは Why? ではなく、Why not? と not を足すのは、
英語は文脈の not をカウントしないからです。
I don’t think 〜. と言われても、 Why not?「なぜ思わないのですか？」と言って、
not を付け加える必要がある、というわけなんですね。

② We shouldn’t give them that impression.【授与型が意味を与える】
👉さあ、give them that impression これは give を使った「授与型」の形
というわけですね。give が「〜に … を与える」という意味を持っているわけ
じゃないんですね。
▶︎ give というのは、ただ単に「出す」ということなんです。そうした動詞なんですね。
それが、この「授与型」と結びつくことによって、「〜に … を与える」という
意味を生み出しているわけです。

③ Azusa, I’m not asking you on a date. 【on のニュアンス】
👉さあ、I’m not asking you on a date – この on a date、この on に気をつけて
くださいね。date というのは、ある活動 – 何かそのプラットフォームのようなもの
が感じられているわけです。その「上に」いる。だから、on が使われるわけです。

④ All right, fine. 【 fine のニュアンス】
👉 fine は「濁りがない、くもりがない」ということですね。
「異論はありません」ただ、それだけを意味しています。「素晴らしい」という
意味ではありません。

▶︎ I am. Let’s go.

▶︎ These first three use “shouldn’t.” But you don’t need to release the “t” –
“shouldn’t ask,” “shouldn’t interrupt.” Let’s try together.
・You shouldn’t ask personal questions.
・You shouldn’t interrupt people.
・You shouldn’t come here uninvited.

Roza
▶︎ OK. Now for these next few examples, I want you to try practicing
with an emphasis on the “not” in the sentence, OK?
So let’s try together.
・Don’t let your guard down.
・You mustn’t let your guard down.
・You had better not let your guard down.
That was great, guys.

▶︎ These next phrases use “not to.” Listen to the “not to.”
We have two “t” sounds in a row. This can be difficult to pronounce.
So let’s combine them. Two become one – “not-to,” “not-to.”
All right. Let’s practice.
・Be careful not to leave anything behind.
・Try not to leave anything behind.
・Remember not to leave anything behind.
