Words and Phrases
● diverse ▶︎多様な
– If something is diverse, it means that it includes people
from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds.
● the other side of the coin ▶︎別の側面
– The opposite aspect, on the other hand. A different way
of considering the situation.
– Ueda mentioned that the scientific approach was kind of
the other side of the coin to a problem.
– So you could say that the scientific approach was the
other way of handling the problem.
● conscious ▶︎意識している
– To be conscious of something means to keep it in mind.
To be aware of something or to be have knowledge of
something.
– In the interview, Udana talked about being conscious about
how to promote mindfulness. So they were aware of the
issues in promoting it, and handled it with care.
● secular ▶︎世俗的な
– Not religious, keeping religion separate.
Secular things can be spiritual, but they
are connected to religion per se.

– Just as I felt comfortable with meditation as a child
