秋田県公立高校入試分析（英語）の５回目です。
今回は、最後の第５問を扱いますが、
第５問は、「長文読解問題」です。
それでは、第５問を見ていきます。
第５問の配点は、
（１）から（５）が１問ずつで、各３点✖️５＝計１５点
（６）が、各３点✖️２＝計６点
（７）が、各３点✖️２＝計６点、で合計２７点となっています。
第５問・・・長文読解問題
次の英文は、天国(heaven) へ旅立った愛犬ロッキー(Rocky) を思う少女ソフィア(Sophia)
の話です。これを読んで (1) 〜 (7) の問いに答えなさい。
ーSophia had a dog named Rocky. Rocky was very old. They were best friends and were
always together even in bed at night.
ーOne day, Rocky became sick. Sophia wanted him to get better, so she took care of him every day. But Rocky died when Sophia was five years old. She ( ) her best friend. She felt alone and cried all day. Sophia’s mother wanted to save her. She said,
”Sophia, *God will take care of Rocky in heaven. Rocky will always watch you from there. So you’re not alone.”
ーA few days later, Sophia thought of (A) something. She brought a pen and a notebook to her mother and said, “I want to write a letter to God. Can you help me?”
She wanted God to take care of Rocky. Her mother was *touched by Sophia’s heart.
And she helped Sophia with her letter.
ーAfter they finished writing, they went to the post office. Sophia told a man working
there about her dog and asked him to send her letter to God. The man said, “Of course, I will.”

Two weeks later, Sophia received a letter.
| Dear Sophia, ーThank you very much for your letter. You will be happy to know that Rocky is with me now. [ ] because the pictures of Rocky were a big help. ーRocky was sad because he lost you too. But don’t worry. He isn’t sick anymore and he is happy now. He can always watch you from heaven. He will always be in your heart. ーI will give you the pictures back. ー(B) Sophia wasn’t surprised when she read the letter with her mother. She believed
that her letter arrived in heaven and God read it. She read the letter from God with
her mother again and again. Sophia (C) was relieved to know that Rocky wasn’t sick
anymore. And she said to her mother, “I’m not alone. Rocky is always in my heart.”
ーTen years have *passed since Rocky left for heaven.
ーSophia and her mother read the letter from God again. Sophia said, “I still have love
for Rocky and I will never lose it.” And her mother said, “I felt very happy when you
got this letter. I was glad there was someone worrying about you.” Sophia felt the same
thing like her mother. She said, “When Rocky died, someone saved me with love. Now
I also want to help someone who really needs help. Then, Sophia thanked “God” for the
letter she received ten years ago.

（１）手紙文から適語を選ぶ問題
（１）（ ）に当てはまる英語１語を、本文中の手紙文から抜き出して書きなさい。
◎（ ）がある英文は下記の通り。
But Rocky died when Sophia was five years old. She ( ) her best friend. She felt alone
and cried all day.
【解説】
・上記の本文の内容は下記の通り。
「しかしロッキーはソフィアが５歳だった時亡くなりました。彼女は一番の友達を（ ）。彼女は一人ぼっちで一日中泣きました。」
英文からすると、
She ( ) her best friend. となっているので、
( ) の部分には「動詞の過去形」が入ることになります。
日本語の意味からすると
「ロッキーが亡くなった。」→「一番の友達を（失った）」の
ような動詞が入ることが予想されます。
【解答】
「動詞の過去形」「失った」から、
手紙文に適する英語を探すと、
→ “Dear Sophia” の手紙文に
“Rocky was sad because he lost you too.” という英文があるので、
解答は、lost となります。
・She lost her best friend.
（２）具体的な内容を説明する問題
（２）下線部 (A) something の内容を、１０字程度の日本語で書きなさい。
◎ (A) something が入っている英文は下記の通り。
A few days later, Sophia thought of (A) something. She brought a pen and a notebook to her mother and said, “I want to write a letter to God. Can you help me?”
【解説】
・「〜の内容を具体的に」書きなさい、という問題は、
その英文の前後にその「内容」が書かれていることが
ほとんどです。（そうでないと、文章として成立しませんからね。）
英文を見ると、
「２、３日後に、ソフィアは (A) 何かについて考えた。」と
あるので、その後の英文を確認すると、
「ソフィアはペンとノートをお母さんのところに持ってきて、
『私は神様に手紙を書きたい。手伝ってくれる？』と言った。」
とあります。
【解答】
ここから、
「神様に手紙を書くこと」を考えていることがわかります。
ですから、解答は、
神様に手紙を書くこと（１０字）となります。
（３）[ ] に適するものを選ぶ問題
（３）[ ] に当てはまるものを、次のア〜エ から１つ選び記号を書きなさい。
ア I needed more pictures to look for you and your mother.
イ He got to heaven very easily.
ウ It wasn’t so difficult for me to find him in heaven.
エ I was able to remember my wonderful days.
◎ [ ] がある部分を抜き出すと下記の通り。

・まず、これは ”God” から “Sophia” への手紙であることを
確認しましょう。（手紙を書いている人は『神』です。）
抜き出した部分の英文の意味は下記の通りです。
「お手紙ありがとうございます。ロッキーが今私と一緒にいるという
ことを知れば嬉しいでしょう。[ ] なぜならロッキーの写真が
とても助けになったからです。」
どうも [ ] の部分が、
「ロッキーの写真で助かった」ことが入ると
良いようです。
それでは、選択肢の意味を確認しましょう。
【選択肢の意味】
ア 私はあなたとあなたの母を探すためにもっと多くの写真が必要だった。
イ 彼はとても早く天国に着いた。
ウ 私にとって天国にいる彼を見つけるのはそんなに難しくなかった。

【解答】
「ロッキーの写真があった助かった」こととして、
一番適切なもの ウが解答となります。
解答は、

※for me の me は「神」、find him の him は「ロッキー」の
ことです。

（４）下線部(B)の理由を日本語で書く問題
（４）下線部 (B) Sophia wasn’t surprised について、その理由を３０字程度の日本語で書きなさい。
◎下線部 (B) の前後を抜き出すと下記の通り。
（神様からの手紙の後）
(B) Sophia wasn’t surprised when she read the letter with her mother. She believed
that her letter arrived in heaven and God read it.
【解説】
・「理由」を探す場合も、たいていは、その英文の
近くにあるのが普通です。
抜き出した英文を見ると
「ソフィアは母とその手紙を読んだ時驚きませんでした。彼女は自分の手紙が
天国に届き神様が読むことを信じていました。」
となっています。
ちょうど、問題文の次の文に
「彼女が驚かなかった」理由が書かれているようです。
【解答】
下線部 (B) の次の文が解答で、
ソフィアの手紙が天国に届き、神様が読むことを
信じていたから（２８字）となります。
（５）下線部 (C) の意味を問う問題
（５）下線部 (C) was relieved の意味として最も適切なものを、本文の内容からして判断して、次のア 〜エ から１つ選んで記号を書きなさい。
ア 疑った イ 勇ましかった ウ 熱心だった エ 安心した
◎下線部 (C) の前後を抜き出すと下記の通り。
She read the letter from God with her mother again and again. Sophia (C) was relieved to know that Rocky wasn’t sick anymore. And she said to her mother, “I’m not alone. Rocky is always in my heart.”

・抜き出した英文は、
「彼女は繰り返し母と神様の手紙を読んだ。ソフィアは ロッキーがもう病気でないことを

下線部(C)の後には、
「私は一人じゃない」などと、

（６）①、②に入る適語を見つける問題
（６）本文の内容に合うように、次の英文の①、②に適する英語１語を、下のア 〜カから

ここに入るのは動詞。
選択肢の中で、動詞は

なるだろう、のような内容になれば意味が通じるので、

（７）本文の内容と合っているものを、次のア 〜カから２つ選んで記号を書きなさい。

ですから、

◎問題文でいうと、
２段目の部分に、
One day, Rocky became sick. Sophia wanted him to get better, so she took care of

という英文があります。
この部分は、
「ある日、ロッキーは病気になった。ソフィアは彼が良くなるようにしたくて、
毎日彼の世話をした。」とあります。
【解答】
ここから、するとア とほぼ同じ内容なので、
アは、正解：本文の内容とあっているとなります。
「イ 」をチェックしましょう。
イ Rocky was very young when he left for heaven.
◎問題文でいうと、
２段目の部分に、
But Rocky died when Sophia was five years old.とあります。
これは、「ソフィアが５歳だった時、ロッキーは亡くなった。」
という意味ですが、
これでは、ロッキーが「とても若い」かどうか
わかりません。
それで、前の部分を探すと、
１段目に、
Rocky was very old. 「ロッキーはとても老いていた。」
とあります。
【解答】
ここから、
イ の ”very young”という部分は、問題文と違うので、
イ は、本文の内容と合っていません。
「ウ 」をチェックしましょう。
ウ Sophia asked her mother to bring a pen and a notebook to write a letter to Rocky.
◎問題文でいうと、
３段目の部分に、
She(Sophia) brought a pen and a notebook to her and said, “I want to write a letter
to God. 〜” とあります。
これは上記の（２）の問題と重なるのですが、
「彼女は母にペンとノートを持ってきて、『神様へ手紙を書きたい』と言った。」
とあります。
【解答】
選択肢ウ は、「ロッキーへの手紙」を書くために、とあり、
問題文では、「神様への手紙」へとなているので、
ここの部分が明らかに違うので、
ウ は、本文の内容と合っていません。
「エ 」をチェックしましょう。
エ The letter to God was written by a man who worked at the post office.
◎問題文でいうと、
４段目に、
Sophia told a man working there about her dog and asked him to send her letter
to God. The man said,” “Of course, I will.” という部分があり、
手紙を除いて、７段目に、

簡単にまとめると、
４段目では、
「神様への手紙を郵便局に持って行って、そこに働いている人に手紙をお願いすると、
大丈夫です、と言った」という内容。
７段目では、
「お母さんが、『あなたを心配している人がいてうれしかった』と言い、ソフィアも
同じで、ロッキーが亡くなったときに愛で私を助けた人がいた。」という内容。
【解答】
ここまで、考えていくと、
「神様からの手紙」は、「郵便局で働いていた」誰かが書いてくれた
ものだとわかります。
そこで、選択肢をもう一度見ると、
「神様への手紙」は、「郵便局で働いていた人」によって書かれた
とあります。
「神様への手紙」は、ソフィアと彼女が母が書き、
「神様からの手紙」は、郵便局で働いていた人が書いたので、
エ は、本文の内容と合わないとなります。
「オ」をチェックしましょう。
オ After ten years, Sophia got a letter from God again and read it with her mother.
◎最後の段落の前の部分に、
Ten years have passed since Rocky left for heaven. とあり
「ロッキーが天国に行ってから１０年が経ちます」という
意味です。
さて、
この後、最後の段落の部分に、
「もう一度」神様からの手紙があったかどうかを
確認すると、
どうも「２度目」の手紙の話は出てきません。

ここからすると、
オは、本文の内容と合わないとなります。
最後「カ」をチェックしましょう。
カ Through Sophia’s experience with Rocky, she wants to be a person who can help
someone.
◎問題文の、最後に
She(Sophia) said, “When Rocky died, someone saved me with love. Now I also
want to help someone who really needs help. ” とあります。
ソフィアが言った内容としては、
「ロッキーが亡くなった時、誰かが私を愛で救ってくれた。今度は私も、助けが本当に
必要な人を助けたいと思う。」と言っています。
【解答】
ここから、カの内容と同じなので、
カは、正解：本文の内容と合っています
結局
（７）の正解は、ア 、カです。
