Words and Phrases 

● proper ▶︎きちんとした
– Correct, genuine, something that is truly what is
supposed to be. 
– For example, passengers without proper documentation
will not be allowed to board a plane.

● comprise ▶︎〜からなる
– To be composed of, to consist of something or be made
up of something.
– For example, Mr. Brule’s media brand comprises, is 
composed of a magazine, podcasts, conferences, books
and more.

● a series of 〜 ▶︎一連の〜
– A sequence, a number of things occurring one after
another. A group of something.

● current ▶︎流れ
– A current is a wave in the ocean, or the wave that it moves.
This is the basis for the idea of a current as in a political
current. The political sphere is always changing just like
ocean currents.

● entrepreneur ▶︎起業家
– Someone who sets up a business, someone or a group
of people who start a business or create a new business.

● urbanism ▶︎アーバニズム
– Characteristic of cities and larger towns.
Urban planning, the way of life for people who live in larger cities.

● purveyor ▶︎調達人
– Provider, someone who sells something highly sought after.

● suiting ▶︎スーツ
– Suits, or pieces of a suit like jackets, shirts, etc.
This can also mean the fabric from which suits are made.

 

 

 

 

●round out ▶︎完成させる
– To make something whole, to make something complete.
In today’s interview, Mr. Brule explained themes and topics
that round out his company, or the components that make 
his company whole.

◎ Exercise の「解答例」での how について
・〜, but how does Monocle differentiate themselves from other
high-end magazines?
▶︎この how は、「方法」とか「プロセス」を聞く時に使われる
疑問詞です。
– 例えば、単純に「どう思う?」と聞くときは、
“What do you think?” のように what を使います。
– 一方、「その結論に至った経緯」を聞きたいときは、
“How did you reach that conclusion?” となります。
