Review をします。
それでは第 15 週 ( 7月 Week 3 )の復習です。
※7月号の「タイトル」は、「動かす②」となっていて、
6月同様「発言タイプ」の学習をするので、発言タイプ Review ⑬ とします。
発言タイプ Review ⑬
・ Week 15 は、発言のタイプ：指示⑨〜⑪、依頼① を学習しました。
◎今年度は「感謝したい」「頼み事をしたい」といった、発言のタイプ別
おすすめ表現を多数学びます。
※学んだ表現を上手に会話に生かすには、そもそも会話はどういった原則に
沿って行われるかの理解が欠かせません。
▶︎そこで、今月も「発言タイプ」について -「動かす」をテーマとしてます。
Lesson 71 発言タイプ：指示⑨「注意」がとる発言パターン
▶︎注意を相手に受け入れてもらうための工夫を学びましょう。
※このようなことをお願いするのはたいへん心苦しいのですが、できましたら声を
小さくしていただけますでしょうか。
👉この文は、① I really hate 以下の十分なクッションと、②丁寧な依頼の形
could you possibly 〜？で「注意」を上手に加工しています。
◎この「加工」の仕方を学びましょう。
| ①代表的な「クッション＋依頼文」の形 ※ Excuse me, but could you please get in line? ※ I’m sorry, but could you please get in line? ※ I hate to ask this, but could you please get in line? |
| ② こちらの「クッション＋依頼文」の形 – just に注目 ※ I’m sorry, but could you just stop talking? |
| ③「クッション＋依頼文」さらに「理由」 ※ I’m sorry to have to ask, but would you mind giving up your seat? [ 理由 ] These are priority seats. |
| ④「クッション＋依頼文＋理由」- 「注意」のゴールデンパターン ※ I’m sorry, but could you mind waiting outside? We’re still preparing. |
Lesson 72 発言タイプ：指示⑩ 禁止する
▶︎「注意」の延長線上の「禁止」-「できない」ということ。
[Key] You’re not supposed to download software because there’s a security risk.
※セキュリティ上のリスクがあるため、ソフトはダウンロードしてはいけないことに
なっています。
👉 be supposed to 〜は「〜することになっている」- 規則や法律・約束などの
「決まりごと」を表す形。これに not を加えて「〜しないことになっている」＝禁止
ここでは、その「禁止」の論拠を加えるひと工夫をしています。
◎「禁止→論拠」への流れを学びましょう。
| ① 禁止を表す You can’t 〜. ※ You can’t sit here. [ 論拠 ] These seats are reserved. |

| ② You must not [mustn’t] は禁止を表す定型表現 ※ You must not use portable media. [ 論拠 ] It’s against company policy. |
|
| ③ may not は must not 同様に「禁止」を表す – may は「上からの許可」▶︎ may not は「公的な禁止」されている感触 ※ You may not use these restrooms. [ 論拠 ] They are for the customers. |

| ④ allow は「許す」- not allowed で「許されていない→禁止」 ※ Smoking is not allowed here. [ 論拠 ] See the sign? |
Lesson 73 発言タイプ：指示⑪ 警告する
▶︎「警告」も注意の延長線上 -好ましくないことを事前に回避するための表現
[Key] I’m warning you. If you don’t change your eating habits, there will be big
problems later.
※あなたに警告しておきます。あなたは食習慣を改めないと、あとになって大問題が
起きますよ。
👉 I’m warning you. は非常に強い警告の定型句です。(I’m telling you. も)
その後に、if を使った「流れ」がポイント。「警告」をして、その行為がどんな結末に
至るのかを示し、くぎを刺す重要な「流れ」です
◎「警告」＋「くぎを刺す」流れを学びましょう。
| ① I’m telling you. の警告を用いた流れのパターン ※ I’m telling you. If you’re late again, 〜. ※ I’m telling you. If you don’t stop spending so much, 〜. ※ I’m telling you. If you keep on missing work, 〜. ※ I’m telling you. If you continue to eat poorly, 〜. |
| ②「結び(くぎを刺す）」のさまざまなバリエーション ※ 〜, there’ll be serious consequences. [深刻な結果をもたらします] ※ 〜, there’ll be dire consequences. ※ 〜, you’ll end up penniless. [最後に無一文となってしまいます] ※ 〜, it’ll cost you your job. [仕事をクビになります] ※ 〜, you’ll risk your life. [命を危険にさらします] |
| ③ You’d better は「切迫感」のある「〜した方がいい」 – or else (otherwise) を加えて、結末を示します。- 脅迫にもつながる ※ You’d better take your work seriously, or else you’ll never get promoted. |
Lesson 74 発言タイプ：依頼① 依頼の基本
▶︎相手に頼み事をする「依頼」では、
要求を直接相手にぶつけないため助動詞がよく使われます。
[Key] Could you play a ragtime piece for her birthday?
※彼女の誕生日にラグタイムの曲を演奏していただけませんか。
👉この文のように、can を過去形にして Could you 〜？とすれば、「現在してほしい」
と言う生々しさから離れ、「丁寧度」があがります。
◎基本的な依頼文を学びましょう。
| ①最初の Hey は「ねぇ」と流れを生み出し、依頼をなめらかに。 – Can you 〜？で「相手の能力」を聞く文にすることで、「要求」から離れる ※ Hey, can you lend me 500 yen? ※ Hey, can you hand me that pen? ※ Hey, can you close the door? ※ Hey, can you carry my bag? |
| ② will を使って「意志」をたずねる形で、命令文より softer に。 – Can you 〜？ Will you 〜？は家族・友人同士で使われる気の置けない表現 ※ Hey, will you open this bottle? ※ Hey, will you set the table? ※ Hey, will you help clean up? ※ Hey, will you watch the kids? |
| ③ Could [Would] you 〜？に please を重ねると、丁寧な印象 – please は後ろ置きにもすることができる ※ Could [ Would ] you please keep your voice down? ※ Could [ Would ] you keep your voice down, please?これで、 |
