Lesson 49 発言タイプ：申し出る① 助力を申し出る１

👉申し出る① 助力を申し出る１
▶︎さまざまな申し出るフレーズの中で今回は最も汎用性の高い基本表現です。

会話の場面

登場人物

・スミス先生 (Mr. Smith)
・音楽教師のジェッツ先生 (Ms. Jets)

状況

・スミス先生とジェッツ先生がラグタイムというピアノ音楽について話しています。

Opening で

Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. Akino Roza here.

David
▶︎ And I’m David Evans. Moyashi is “bean sprout” in English.
Remember that, all right?

Dialogue で

① Mr. Smith, are you familiar with the piano music called ragtime?
【熟語 be familiar with】
👉さあ、ここで be familiar with というフレーズが使われています。
「〜をよく知っている」というフレーズですね。

② Scott Joplin is one of my favorite composers.【composer の意味】
👉さあ、ここでは composer という単語が出てきましたね。
「作曲家」という単語、しっかり覚えといてください。

③ Isn’t the air in here a little stuffy?【stuffy のニュアンス】
👉さあ、ここの stuffy という単語。ここでは、「空気のこもった」「空気が
よどんでいる」- そんな感触を表していますね。

④ You know, my students say I’m stuffy.
【stuffy の基本ニュアンスは変わらない】
👉さあ、ここで再び stuffy という単語が用いられていますよね。
ここでは、”人” を形容しています。「人が stuffy である」というのは、
「新しい考えをあまり受け入れない、古くさい」- まあ、そうしたイメージに
なってるわけですね。やはり、ちょっと「よどんでいる」感じがするわけです。

▶︎ OK. Why don’t we start? Here we go, guys!
・Why don’t I buy you a drink?
・Why don’t I drive you home?

▶︎ Let’s continue.

Great. And one more variation.
・May I help you?

David
▶︎ OK. Our next phrases use “let me.” You can shorten that to “let-me.”
Let’s try a couple together. Here we go.
・Let me carry that for you.
・Let me get the door.
・Let me take that.
・Let me wash the dishes.

▶︎ OK. Let’s try one last example.
・What can I do for you?
Let’s try that together.
・What can I do for you?
