Opening で

Roza
▶︎ Hi, everyone. This is Bar… Ah, I mean Akino Roza.

▶︎ Chris McVay here. What a coincidence, Roza!

▶︎ Coincidence? What’s a coincidence?

Chris
▶︎ You know, you’re in the studio, and I’m in the studio, and…

Roza
▶︎ We keep meeting by chance. I must mean something.

▶︎ No, it was exactly planned.

Dialogue で

① What a coincidence!
👉さあ、ここで出てきた What a coincidence! これは、しっかりと
全文まとめて覚えて下さいね。「なんて偶然なんでしょう」というフレーズです。

② We keep meeting by chance.
👉ここで出てきた by chance – これは「偶然に、たまたま」
覚える価値のあるフレーズですよ。

③ Yes, it means we both love Deepak’s Indian cooking, right?
👉さあ、ここで we both というフレーズが出てきましたね。
代名詞に both をつける、こうした言い方、非常によくあります。
しっかりと練習しておきましょう。

④ I’m the one who found it for him.
👉さあ、ここの I’m the one「私がその人だ」と言ってから、何をした人なのかを
関係代名詞節で説明していく形。しっかりと覚えて置いて下さいね。
I’m the one who 〜. このタイミングですよ。

⑤ I’m a real estate agent, you know.
👉さあ、real estate agent – これは「不動産業者」のことですね。
Hey, Chris, are there any other ways to express the same thing?
Chris▶︎ Yeah, actually in the UK we often just say, “estate agent.”
And I believe, Roza, that you can say “realtor” in American English.
Is that right?
Roza ▶︎ That’s right.

⑥ Why did he decide to move?
👉さあ、decide の後ろに動詞句的な内容が来ていますね。「動くことを決める」
というわけですが、こうした動詞句的な内容が目的語に来るときは、普通
動詞 ing形と to 不定詞どちらも選ぶことができるわけですが、decide は、
to 不定詞しか選ぶことができません。
▶︎これは、decide が「これから動詞」だから。
「これから何かをすることを決定する」という意味合いですね。
ですから、矢印のイメージを持ち、「これから」が香る to 不定詞がベスト
コンビネーションとなるわけです。
