👉1月は、限定詞・名詞関連・接続詞のイメージについて学習します。
今週も、「名詞関連」です。

Lesson 191 可算名詞・不可算名詞：基礎

👉 Native Speaker は名詞を「数えられるかどうか」で２つに区別
▶︎可算名詞・不可算名詞 – 基準は「決まった形があるか・具体的かどうか」

Opening で

Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. Akino Roza here.
Hey, Chris. have a few bottles of red wine.

Chris
▶︎ Oh, that’s great, because some friends are coming over for dinner
this evening. So please give them to me now.
Chris McVay here.

Dialogue で

① Well, my parents are coming over for dinner …
👉さあ、come over というフレーズが出てきましたね。
「やってくる」というわけですが、距離感を感じさせる「やってくる」
というわけですね。

② This coming Sunday?
👉この coming Sunday という言い方、しっかりと覚えてくださいね。
「今度の」というわけです。

③ What are we going to serve?
👉 be going to が出てきました。「〜するつもり」というわけですね。

④ Don’t put in too much onion.
👉さあ、put in 〜これは「入れる」というわけですね。
気楽にこうしたフレーズ、使えるようになると格段に英会話が上手になって
いきますよ。

Practice

▶︎ Hi, guys. Are you ready to practice?
Today we’re focusing on the difference between “countable” and “uncountable”
nouns. Basically if there’s a specific shape, it’s “countable.” And if there’s no shape, it’s “uncountable.”
Let’s look at lots of examples together. Here we go!
・My dad has some beer at dinner.
・My dad has some wine at dinner.
・My dad has some cheese at dinner.
・My dad has some bread at dinner.
・All we need is love.
・All we need is peace.
・All we need is happiness.
All of these have no specific shape, so “uncountable.”

▶︎ And let’s try another “uncountable”: rain.
・We don’t have much rain here.

・Water boils at 100 ℃.
・We need water to live.
