▶︎ Chris McVay here. Hey, you guys, I don’t want any fighting
between the two of you, right?

Roza
▶︎ OK.

Dialogue で

① I‘m having problems again.
👉 I’m having problems というフレーズが出てきましたね。
have は所有権が及んでいる時には、I’m having a pen. とは言えずに、
I have a pen ですが …
▶︎ ここでは problems となっていましたね。
「何か問題に巻き込まれている」そんな動きが感じられる – そうした
フレーズとなっていますので、I’m having problems と進行形が成立する
というわけです。

② You and your girlfriend broke up, right?
👉さあ、ここでは broke up というフレーズが出てきましたね。もちろん
原形は break up となるわけです。恋人などが別れる – という意味で
使われています。

③ Anything else?
👉 Anything else? という文が出てきましたね。もうまとめて覚えてください。
「他に何かありますか」「他に何があるんですか」まあ、そうしたふうに
使うわけですね。しっかりと覚えておきましょう。

See how specific that is – two sons, three daughters.
That’s why “between” can be used.” Once more.

▶︎ OK. Another example.
・It’s tough to choose between these. ×２
・How much cash do you have between the two of you?
Again very specific, right? Two people – the two of you.
So “between” is perfect here. Once more.
・How much cash do you have between the two of you?
Excellent! Well done.

▶︎ Excellent job.

▶︎ Hey, guys. Tell me. Have you ever read between the lines?

▶︎ Well, yeah, lots of time. But one time when I was younger
as a student, I asked a friend if I could stay at his place for a week
because I didn’t have any place to stay. And he said, “Yes. No problem …”
So I automatically realized that was a bad idea.
