Lesson ８２名詞を形容詞で説明する

今までの道のり

▶︎英語は「配置の言葉」
– 語順は「基本文型」と「修飾語順規則」によって決まる。
– Lesson 1 から 9 までは「修飾語順規則」を扱いました。

▶︎Lesson 11 からは Lesson 40までは
「基本文型」の基本を学んできました。

▶︎Lesson 31 から Lesson 53 までは、
節・to不定詞・動詞-ing形・動詞原形・過去分詞の拡張について勉強し、
Lesson 54, 56 では「リポート文の拡張」を学習しました。

▶︎Lesson 57 〜 59 で「命令文」と「there 文」を扱いました。

▶︎７月号からは、「説明ルール」で、
「文の説明」「動詞句の説明」「形容詞＋to不定詞」「名詞の説明」を終了。

▶︎８月号は、他の「名詞の説明」の仕方に入ります。

▶︎Hey, everyone. Akino Roza here. Speaking of “hot,” it’s
getting very hot these days, so remember to drink lots
of water.

Chris
▶︎Chris McVay here. Actually, could someone get me some water
now, please? I have to remember to drink lots while recording.

Dialogue で

① I had to 〜
👉「私は〜しなければならなかった」というわけです。

② take a day off
👉これは「1日の休みをとる」という表現です。

③ I was in the hospital 〜. という表現について
O：Chris, “in the hospital” or “in hospital”?
C：Of course, “in hospital” is better. NO.
– Basically in British English we don’t use “the” for “in the hospital.”
R：And in American English, you do use “the hospital.”
C：So please take your pick.

④ What’s wrong?
👉これは「機械や体調、調子が悪い時」によく使われる文です。

⑤ I was treated for heatstroke.
👉これは「治療する」という使い方もある動詞です。
– I was treated.「手当を受けた」というわけです。
👉そして for は原因を表して、heatstroke は「熱中症」のことです。

⑥ scorching について
O：Hey, what’s the image of “scorching”?
R：Well, for me it’s like the image of firing, like a torch burning.
C：Ummm, yeah. I imagine flames, you know, it’s such intense
heat that the land shrivels up and flames are everywhere
