Lesson ７７名詞の説明②：to不定詞

今までの道のり

▶︎英語は「配置の言葉」
– 語順は「基本文型」と「修飾語順規則」によって決まる。
– Lesson 1 から 9 までは「修飾語順規則」を扱いました。

▶︎Lesson 11 からは Lesson 40までは
「基本文型」の基本を学んできました。

▶︎Lesson 31 から Lesson 53 までは、
節・to不定詞・動詞-ing形・動詞原形・過去分詞の拡張について勉強し、
Lesson 54, 56 では「リポート文の拡張」を学習しました。

▶︎Lesson 57 〜 59 で「命令文」と「there 文」を扱いました。

▶︎７月号からは、「説明ルール」で、
「文の説明」「動詞句の説明」「形容詞＋to不定詞」を終えて
今週から「名詞の説明」に入ります。

Lesson ７７名詞の説明②：to不定詞

Opening で

Roza
▶︎Hey, everyone. Akino Roza here.

Chris
▶︎Chris McVay here, guys. Roza, come one!
Have you forgotten we have a lesson to do?

Roza
▶︎No, I haven’t forgotten,
You’re the one that forgot.
You’re the one that’s always late.

Chris,
▶︎Ha 〜, let’s get started.

Dialogue で

① come on
👉ここでは「なだめる」ニュアンスで使われています。
クリスさんのイントネーションによく注意しましょう。

② everything we read □ about work-life balance
👉関係代名詞節による修飾です。we read の後ろに □ があり、
「ワークライフバランスについて私たちは□を読みました」
それと everything が組み合わされ
「ワークライフバランスについて私たちが読んだ全てのこと」
という意味をつくっています。

③ Normally
👉文頭に置かれていることに注意。
「いつもは」- いつも起こることが後ろに来ますよ、という
指定の働きを指しているわけです。

④ three reports to finish by next Monday
👉 three reports の後ろに to不定詞 – to finish by next Monday
というフレーズをつくっています。
– もちろん、three reports という名詞の後ろに来るわけですから、
to finish by next Monday は three reports の説明ということです。

Practice with Chris – I have a lot of things to do.

▶︎OK, guys. Let’s practice. As usual, the most important thing point
is to catch the native speaker’s rhythm.
And the rhythm here is simply “one, two,” “one, two.”
“One – the main phrase” followed by “two – the explanation.”
So with this in mind, let’s practice together.
・I have a lot of things, but what things? – to do.
・I have a lot of things to do.
– Are you ready? Let’s go.
・I have a lot of things to do.
– Once more, catch that rhythm.
The position is really important. The main phrase followed by the explanation.
・I have a lot of things to do.
– Excellent, well done. Remember, the order is the key.

Ending

Onishi
▶︎Hey, Chris. You like writing example sentences of “school plays,”
right?

Chris
▶︎Yeah, I guess I do.

Onishi
▶︎Have you ever played the role of a protagonist?

Chris
▶︎Yes, I have actually. The most challenging role I played was
the role of “Carion(?)” in a French drama called “Antigone(?).”
The fifteen pages for one speech, so it killed me.

Roza
▶︎What about you, Sensei?

Onishi
▶︎I played the role of a stone, a tree, something like that.

Chris
▶︎Challenging, right?

Onishi
▶︎Oh, it is.

Roza
▶︎I think that, that was probably much harder than Chris’s
fifteen pages of the dialogue.
