会話の場面

👉レンジ(Renji) と新しい家庭教師アオイ(Aoi)

状況

👉レンジが新しい家庭教師のアオイに「考古学」についてたずねています。
レンジは「人類の起源」に興味があって、そのことについて話し合いしています。

Opening で

Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. Akino Roza here.

David
▶︎ And I’m David Evans. OK, guys. Let’s get started.

Dialogue で

① Aoi, do you know anything about archaeology?【archaeology】
👉さあ、archaeology – これは「考古学」というわけですね。
しっかりと、こういう難しい単語もですね、出てくる側から覚えていったら、
必ず使う機会はありますよ。

② I’m curious about the origin of the human race. 【curious のニュアンス】
👉さあ、ここでは curious という表現が出てきましたね。
これは「知りたがる」といった形容詞ですけれども、どんなニュアンスなんでしょうか。
▶︎ What’s the nuance of this word (“curious”)?
▶︎ “Curious” is a very strong feeling – you need know somebody
immediately. It’s like an itch in your brain you must scratch.

③ In a manner of speaking, yes.【熟語】
👉さあ、ここで in a manner of speaking というフレーズが出てきました。
「言い方によると」ということですね。「ある意味では」「言ってみれば」
といった日本語に対応します。
