「日本語を経由せず、英語を使う力」を養います。
Lesson 63 arrive・reach のイメージ
👉 arrive は「自動型」- 単なる「到着する」という動作を表す
👉 reach は「他動型」-「手を伸ばして(対象物に)タッチ」
Opening で
Onishi

▶︎ Hey, everyone. Akino Roza here. Ready for today’s lesson.

▶︎ What? What did you say?
Chris
▶︎ Can you hear me?
Roza
▶︎ No. I couldn’t hear you.

Dialogue で
① Akira, can you hear me?
👉さあ、hear は「聞こえる」という動詞でしたね。
Can you hear me? これは、もうまとめて覚えておきましょう。
② The surface of this planet is indeed red.
👉 the surface -「表面」という単語ですね。
👉そして、indeed red – おそらくは、「赤いだろう」と思っていた
わけですね。「本当に赤かった」という意味で indeed red と言っています。
③ Are you talking about the alien ship that we saw?
👉さあ、この Are you talking about 〜？
これも非常によく使われますね。「〜について行っているのですか」
という形です。
Practice

Now you just heard Onishi Sensei’s description of the basic images
of these two verbs – “arrive” and “reach.”
So let’s just be very careful about the sentence pattern, because
the sentence patterns are different. OK?
So with all that in mind, let’s practice together. Here we go!
Now today I want you just to imagine a big, big question mark in your head.
・arrive here / arrive home / arrive at the hotel
・arrive in London / arrive from London

▶︎ And here’re some examples with “reach.”
・reach the hotel / reach London / reach the top of Mt. Fuji
You can feel that process, that reaching towards, right?

▶︎ That’s right, and the same goals here.
・reach the top shelf
A few more.
・reach 70 miles per hour / reach a peak / reach my knees

▶︎ And the last one.
・We’ve reached the conclusion that 〜.

What are your impressions after arriving back in Japan?

I was so glad to be back home, ‘cause it feels like home to be in
Japan now,

I always make sure to go to the bathroom and sit on the warm
toilet seat. It’s wonderful.
