Words and Phrases
● academic setting ▶︎勉学の場
– An academic setting is where education is provided,
including schools, laboratories, libraries, etc.
– Mr. Nelson talked about using skills outside of a purely
academic setting, or other than just academic settings.
● exceed the bar ▶︎一定のレベルを超える
– To exceed the bar is connected with the idioms “setting
the bar high,” or “setting a high bar,” which means to
set high expectations.
● facility ▶︎能力
– Ability, often a natural ability.
Being able to do something really well, and with ease.
– Mr. Nelson said that his students have to demonstrate facility
with English, or show that they can use English really well, and
very easily.
