Review をします。
それでは第 24 週 ( 9月 Week 4 )の復習です。
※前置詞学習の8週目なので、前置詞の Review ⑧とします。
前置詞の Review ⑧
・ Week 24 は、前置詞 with, without, across を学習しました。

Lesson 11６ with のイメージ ②

[Key] It’ll get easier with time.
※それは時とともに簡単になっていきます。
▶︎この文は「時間の経過とともに楽になる」ということ
– 「時間的なつながり（同時性）」
| ①時間の経過と状況の展開が同時進行 ※ Wine improves with age. – become wiser with age |
| ②「因果」の with – 同時性が「原因・結果」につながる ※ He is in bed with the flu. ※ I can’t concentrate with all this noise. |
| ③付帯状況の with – 同時進行する状況を with で表現 ※ She greeted me with a smile on her face. |

[Key] Did you take any pictures with the old film camera I gave you?
※私があなたにあげた古いフィルム式カメラであなたは何かを撮影しましたか。
▶︎道具や材料は手と「一緒に」あります。
– このつながった感触が、with が使われる理由です。
この文は take any pictures を「古いフィルム式カメラ」を使って行う、ということ。
| ①「道具・材料」を使って何かが行われるという使い方 ※ eat fish with chopsticks / strike the nail with a hammer ※ paint with a brush / write with a pen ※ is made with recycled paper / is covered with snow ※ is filled with anxiety |

| ②「抽象度が高い」使い方 – でも「道具・材料」 ※ help Mom with the housework [ help Mom という行為を「家事」を使って行う ] ※ provide people with food [「食べ物」を使って provide という行為をする ] ※ charge him with fraud |

| ③「場所のつながり」「時間的なつながり(付帯状況)」「因果のつながり」 ※ have words with 〜 / I’m happy with your work.- 場所 ※ Don’t speak with your mouth full. – 時間 / He’s off work with a cold. – 因果 |
Lesson 118 without のイメージ

[Key] It goes without saying that you and your fiancee are enjoying
your new apartment, right?
※もちろん、あなたと婚約者は新しいアパートでの生活を楽しんでいるのですよね。
▶︎ It goes without saying は頻用フレーズ。「言わなくても当たり前のこととして
go(通用する)」から「言うまでもなく・当然のことながら」を表します。
| ① without の逆は with 「場所のつながり」がない ※ I’m very busy, so just go without me. ※ a man without a beard / a world without war / a world without poverty |
| ②「時間的なつながり」がない ※ He left without saying good-bye. ※ The hotel didn’t allow me to enter without a jacket on. [ 付帯状況の with と同じ ] |
| ③ without は「〜がなければ」と条件のニュアンスももつ ※ I can’t live without your love. ※ Without some extra budget, we would have to give up the project. – would have to は will have to のトーンを抑えた控え目な表現 |

[Key] I saw you running across the street!
※あなたが通りの向こうから走ってくるのが見えました。
▶︎この文の across the street は、通りを横切る動きを示している。
| ① across も動き・場所両用 ※ They swam across the river. [動き] ※ There’s an excellent cafe across the street. [場所] |
| ② across は「ある地域の端から端まで」につながる ※ I hitchhiked across Australia. / across the board [全面的に] |
| ③ come across は「偶然見つける」 ※ I came across a review of this restaurant with your name and photo. – run across ( 偶然見つける、バッタリ出会う ) |
