Review をします。
それでは第 21 週 ( 9月 Week 1 )の復習です。
※前置詞学習の５週目なので、前置詞の Review ⑤とします。
前置詞の Review ⑤
・ Week 21 は、前置詞 among, before, after, along を学習しました。

Lesson 101 among のイメージ
| 🔴 among のイメージ▶︎「一群のモノ・人」-「ごちゃごちゃ感」 |
[Key] There’s a new Italian place that’s very popular among university students.
※大学生たちの間で大人気の新しいイタリアンレストランがあります。
▶︎ ここでも漠然と一群の「大学生たち」が思い浮かべています。
– in のように「グループの中」が強く意識されているわけではありません。
ただただ「一群」
| ①「雑然と出てくる人々の中に」 ※ There she is, among the crowds coming through the game. |

| ②「雑多な応募者や人々 – その中に」 ※ among the applicants / among all these people / among the mountains ※ among the rich / among the injured –「the＋形容詞」で「〜の人々」 |

Lesson 102 before のイメージ
| 🔴 before「〜の前に」のイメージ ▶︎「順序が前」 ※場所の「前」には in front of が圧倒的に優先して使われる |
[Key] We often go jogging together before breakfast.
※私たちは、朝食前によく一緒にジョッギングをしによく出かけます。
▶︎この文でも「朝食の前に」と順序が述べられています。
| ①「順序」を表していることに留意 ※ Shibuya comes before Ebisu. ※ before lunch / before six o’clock / before that ※ before long [ 長くなる前に ⇨ まもなく・やがて ] |
| ②「重要性の順序」を表す使い方 ※ Family comes before work. / Business before pleasure. ※ before all (things)「とりわけ」 – before everything とも言えます。 |
| ③ before の後ろには「節」も使えます ※ I made you before I made him. – before finishing breakfast [ 動詞 -ing 形も用いることができる] |
| ④ before は「単独」でも、指定語句を加えることもできる ※ I’ve seen it before. [ 単独の使い方 -「以前に」] ※ two weeks before Christmas / long before we met – two weeks, long などが before を「指定」 |

※私の鉢植えの面倒を見ていただけますか。
▶︎この文で使われた look after 〜「〜の世話をする・面倒を見る」を、
何か悪ことが起らないように「後ろから見ている→見守る」ということ。
| ① after の「ついていく」という順序関係 ※ after [ dinner・lunch ] / after [ work・school ] ※ after that / after nine o’clock |
| ② take after 〜, name … after 〜 ※ take after your father [ 顔つきや性格などを、後ろについていきながら take ] ※ name my daughter after my mother [元の名前の持ち主になるように名づける] |
| ③「ついていく」は「追いかける」抽象的に「模倣する」につながる ※ The police are after you. [ 追いかける ] ※ This painting is after Picasso. [ 模倣する ] ※ After you. [ お先にどうぞ。- 決まり文句 ] |
| ④ 名詞 after 名詞 – 「反復」を表現 ※ day after day [ 来る日も来る日も ] / time after time [ 何度も何度も ] – day by day [ 日毎に ] は「連続性」に焦点 |
| ⑤ after も後ろに「節」「動詞 ing形」をとることができる ※ after finishing my homework [ 動詞 -ing形 ] ※ after the class is over [ 節 ] |

| 🔴 along ▶︎細長い線状のものに「沿った」動き・位置を表す前置詞 |
[Key] The weather today is perfect for cycling along the river.
※今日の天気は川沿いをサイクリングするのにぴったりです。
▶︎ここでは「川」に沿った動きであるため、
cycling along the river となっています。
| ① the beach も the street も「細長い」もの ※ walk along the beach / walk along the street |
| ②細長いものに沿った「場所」も表すことができる ※ You can find it along the street. [通りに沿った所に] ※ You can find it along the way. [ここに至る途中で] |
| ③常に「細長い線状のもの」が意識される ※ Move along. [ 動いていく動線までが連想される表現 ] ※ Come along. [ 話し手の動きに沿い同行することが期待される ] ※ Take an umbrella along. [ 人と傘が寄り添っていくことになるから along ] |
| ④ along を用いたフレーズ ※ get along (well) with 〜「〜と仲よくやっていく」 – 誰かに「沿ってうまく動く」ことから、「衝突せずに仲良くやる」 ※ You knew all along who did it, didn’t you? 「初からずっと」 – all along は今に至る事態の流れが意識されている |
