それでは第 46 週 ( 3月 Week 2 )の復習です。

・ Week 46 は、発言のフローについて学習しました。
【フローをt】も、基本動詞・前置詞のように

Lesson 226 条件を表すフロー③：条件を表す様々なフレーズ
・in case ・as long as 〜 ・(Let’s) suppose ＋that 節
※雨が降るといけないから、傘を持っていきましょう。
▶︎ case は「場合」。in case は「〜の場合には」と、if 同様の使い方がありますが、
注意しなければいけないのは、この「〜するといけないから」の使い方
👉何か好ましくないことが起こる可能性を見ており、「そうした場合に備えて」と
いうこと。
| ① in case は「不都合な場合」を意識して使われる ※ I’ll bring some cash in case they don’t accept credit cards. ※ I’ll take my passport just in case. [念の為] |
| ② as long as で条件を表す「〜する限りは」 ※ As long as you agree to follow the rules, you can join our club. |
| ③「(Let’s) suppose ＋(that)節」は「〜と仮定してみよう」 ※ Suppose we live forever. [土台とする]イメージ – assume だとよりフォーマルな表現 [受け入れる」イメージ |
Lesson 227 譲歩のフロー①：if を使う
※ if もよく使われる「もし〜であっても」と譲歩の意味合いで使われる
[Key] I don’t care if you prefer a male.
※あなたが男性のほうがいいとしても、私は気にしません。
▶︎「譲歩」では、if もよく使われます。if は条件を表す単語。
それが「もし〜であっても(関係がない・変わらない)」と譲歩の意味合いで使われる。
| ①「譲歩の if [〜であっても]」 ※ I don’t care if you love someone else. ※ I don’t care if you have no money. ※ I don’t care if you can’t speak Japanese. |

| ② even if は「極論」を持ち出す「たとえこんなことがあったとしても」 ※ I don’t care even if you have no money. |

| ③ whether 〜 or not も「譲歩」[〜かどうかに関わらず] ※ (Whether you) need one or not, she is coming here on Sunday. ※ (Whether you) like it or not, she is coming here on Sunday. ※ (Whether you) believe it or not, she is coming here on Sunday. – whether you の省略されることもある |
Lesson 228 譲歩のフロー②：「変わらない」を表す表現
※その他：all the same, still, despite, in spite of, even so
[Key] Life is much slower here. Nevertheless, it’s never boring.
※ここでの生活はずっとのんびりしています。それにもかかわらず、まったく退屈する
ことがありません。
▶︎ nevertheless は前の文脈を受け、「それでも・それにもかかわらず」と趣旨を
展開する「譲歩」-「譲歩」とは「〜だとしても、何も変わらない」ということ。
◎ nevertheless は
「never(まったく)・the(その分だけ)・less(より少なく)なりはしない」
-「変わらない」ということ
| ① all the same [〜にもかかわらず]も「変わらない」 ※ Only a few people came. All the same, it was a successful event. |
| ② still [まだ・依然として] – 事態が「変わらない」こと ※ I treat my wife like a princess. Still, she’s not satisfied. |
| ③ despite, in spite of 〜「〜にもかかわらず」 ※ He’s still an excellent tennis player despite his age. – spite[悪意・軽蔑・軽視]には、逆向きの力が想起されるため 「そうした逆境があっても、変わらない」と譲歩を表します。 |
| ④ even so は、前の文脈を受ける so を用いて「たとえそうであっても」 ※ I’m happy you got a new job. Even so, I’m sad to see you leave the company. |
Lesson 229 条件を表すフロー ②：そうしなければ
[Key] No matter what I do, I’m not satisfied with the result.
※何をやっても、私はその結果に満足できません。
👉 no matter は「まったく重要ではない・関係がない」
この文では、それに what I do が加わり、「私が何をしようが関係ない＝何をしよう
とも」。▶︎選択肢を最大限に広げ、それでもなお「変わらない」＝「譲歩」
| ① no matter は、what 以外にもさまざまな wh語と結びつきます ※ No matter where you go, I’ll follow you. ※ No matter when you want to start, I’ll be ready. ※ No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t solve the problem. ※ No matter who you choose to marry, I’ll support you. |
| ②「wh語＋ever」も譲歩を表す表現 ※ Whatever I do, I’m not satisfied with the result. [何をやっても] – ever のイメージは anytime ▶︎「譲歩」につながる |
