👉1月は、限定詞・名詞関連・接続詞のイメージについて学習します。
今週からは、「名詞関連」です。
Lesson 186 人々一般を表す
👉「人々一般」を最も広範囲表す – you

Dialogue で
① Mr. Smith, what are you listening to?
👉さあ、ここでは wh疑問文が出てきましたね。
what がターゲットとしているのは、listening to – この to の後ろの空所です。
「何を聞いているんですか」という文が作られる、というわけなんですね。
▶︎ what are you listening to □? 前置詞の後ろに□ (空所) がある文は、
作るのがやっかいです。しっかりと何度か、音読・暗唱をお願いしますね。
② I’ve never been to Austria.
👉さあ、ここでは never を使って経験を否定する、現在完了形の文が出て
きましたね。I’ve never been to 〜. もう、まとめて覚えてしまいましょう。
こうした文を英作文してるようでは、なかなか会話は滑らかには進みません。
③ You of all people should go.
👉さあ、ここでは you of all people というフレーズが出てきましたね。
これは、( you に) of all people「すべての人々の中で」というフレーズを付け加える
ことによって、「あなたこそが」という強い焦点を「あなた」に与えている – そうした
表現になっています。
④ I’ve wanted to go for a long time.
👉さあ、これは現在完了 – ここでは継続用法に分類されそうな使い方ですね。
「長い期間ずっと〜していた」というわけですね。for a long time も含めて、
音読・暗唱をお願いいたします。
⑤ I’m not sure, you’d better check.
👉さあ、ここの you’d better – you had better のことですね。
切迫感のある had better という表現。しっかりと覚えといてください。
後ろは動詞原形ですよ。
