22-ラジオ英会話 7/13

昨日の「ラジオ英会話」の勉強内容です。
tweet で発信してきたものを、
ブログで、まとめたものです。
(基本的に、テキストに書かれているものは省略しています)

7月のテーマは基本動詞④

👉7月も…
引き続き基本動詞のイメージをつかみ
「日本語を経由せず、英語を使う力」を養います。

Lesson 68  change のイメージ

👉 change は、さまざまな変化を表すことのできる、変化の万能選手

Opening で

Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. This is Akino Roza.

Chris
▶︎ Hi, guys. Chris McVay here.
I’m so jealous of your openings.

Dialogue で

① He had changed into casual clothes.
👉さあ、ここでは過去完了形 had+過去分詞 が出てきていますね。
もちろん、それは I saw him の時点よりも以前に着替えていた、ということを
表すためです。

② So, you’re not jealous anymore.
👉さあ、not 〜 anymore というフレーズが出てきました。
「もはや〜ではない」というフレーズです。

③ Well, I’m glad that problem’s settled.
👉さあ、settle という動詞 – これは基本的に「落ち着く」という動詞なんですね。
“わぁー”と散らかったものが、しっかりと収まるべき所に、ゆっくりゆっくり
収まっていく – これが settle という動詞の語感です。
▶︎そして、問題(problem) ですね。何か、その、とっちらかった状況にあるわけ
ですね。そしてその問題が、こう落ち着いていく – だから「解決する」という
意味で使われるというわけです。

In what way?
👉「どんな風にですか」これもですね。1つまとめて覚えておいてくださいね。
会話で非常jに使い勝手のいいフレーズです。

⑤ You’re more like a real woman now.
👉 more like 「もっと〜のように」というフレーズ。
これも覚えておきましょう。

After the Dialogue

Roza
▶︎ You know, what will make you even more popular than a cool suit and
necktie? Our textbook, of course.

Practice

Chris
▶︎ OK, guys. Let’s practice this truly basic verb, “change.”
Change is change. Anything that transforms from one state to another.
So let’s begin.

Roza
▶︎ And remember, to change your thinking from Japanese to English.

Chris
▶︎ So here’s the first example.
Imagine – somebody in formal wear, maybe for work, and now
casual clothes the person’s wearing. So we say,
・He had changed into casual clothes.
Try. Once more, after me.
・He had changed into casual clothes.

Roza
▶︎ Here are a couple of very common phrases.
・Things change.
・Time has changed.

Chris
▶︎ And common expressions.
・change my opinion
・change my outlook
・change my mind

Roza
▶︎ And a few more.
・change my phone
・change this for a new one
・change yen into dollars
・change trains / change buses / change planes
I’m sure you can see change is good.

Chris
▶︎ Yeah, Roza, actually  a lot of people are scared of change.
But look! No change, no butterflies.

Ending

Onishi
▶︎ Hey, Roza. You’ve changed a lot.

Roza
▶︎ Oh? In what way? Oh, do you mean I’ve been more beautiful?
Or do you mean I’ve grown a lot?

Onishi
▶︎ You’ve changed a lot.

Chris
▶︎ Well, Sensei, you haven’t changed a lot because you’re always
practicing.

Onishi
▶︎ Yes, I practice hard every day.
