Lesson ４２感覚を表す動詞：look

👉 look は「目を向ける」- 自発的動作
※ Lesson 42 から「感覚を表す動詞」の学習に入り、最初は look です。

Opening で

Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. Akino Roza here.
You know, Chis is too good-looking, and it really bothers me.

Chris
▶︎ Hi, guys. Chris McVay here. Roza’s jealous.

Dialogue で

① You don’t sound so sure.
👉さあ、ここの You don’t sound so sure. – この文は、説明型
オーバーラッピングの形ですね。基本は、you ＝ so sure ではない、
という文なんです。けれども、そこに sound の意味が全体に乗っかります。
「あなたは、so sure には聞こえない」- sound の意味が文全体に
オーバーラッピングする感触で、この文を練習してください。

② All the girls in town follow him around.
👉 follow him around というフレーズが出てきましたね。
日本語でも「追い回す」- 言葉は違っても、似た部分っていうのは
あるんですね。

③ Yes, and it really bothers me.
👉さあ、この bother という動詞。
これはですね、「〜を悩ます」そうした使い方があるんですね。

④ Look what you’ve done to me.
👉さあ、この文はですね。ジーニーはもう、うろたえちゃってるわけです。
オロオロしているわけです。「そういう私を見てくれ」というわけなんですね。
「なんてことをあなたは、私にしてくれたのでしょう」と言ってるわけ
ですね。

Practice

▶︎ It’s practice time.
Now this one is so easy because “look,” all you have to grasp here is
that “turn your head in the particular direction.” That’s it!
So let’s practice these sentences together.

Roza
▶︎ And don’t think in Japanese.

Chris
▶︎ Good point, Roza. After me.
・Look, here comes the boss.
And again after me. The next one.
・Look what time it is!
And the last one.
・Just looking.
OK.

Roza
▶︎ Next example.
・You look great in that jacket. ×２

Chris
▶︎ Moving on.
・You’d better get the doctor to look at the cut.
Turn your head in the direction of the cut, right?
That’s the idea.
・You’d better get the doctor to look at the cut.
Try.

▶︎ Last example.
・Can you look after my plants?
Here, too, you have the feeling of “look at the plants.”
・Can you look after my plants?
