「失敗」「成功」「類似・同一・相違」や「決定」「決意表明」「相手の都合を尋ねる」など
「これから」に関わる表現を学んでいきましょう。

▶︎今回は、「値踏み・評価」にまつわる表現を学びましょう。
会話の場面
登場人物
・ゼイトクス (Zaytox) と マサミ (Masami)
状況
・ゼイトクスとマサミが将棋クラブの部室で話しています。さて、ゼイトクスは AIソフトと
対決したようですが …..
Opening で
Onishi
▶︎ Christmas is overrated.
Roza
▶︎ Akino Roza here.
David
▶︎ And I’m David Evans. Just be careful, Sensei. Santa brings coal to bad boys.
Dialogue で
① You beat the Big West AI shogi program . 【 beat の過去形 】
👉さあ、beat – これは過去形で、ここでは使われていますよね。
「打ち勝った」というわけです。
② But no human being has ever won against it. 【 ever のイメージ 】
👉さあ、ここでは ever という単語が出てきました。この単語は、at any time という
イメージです。「いつの時を取っても」というわけですね。つまり、「今まで勝った人が
いなかった」というわけです。
③ I doubt they have. 【 doubt の意味 】
👉さあ、I doubt – この doubt というのは「そうは思わない」という意味合いを持っています。
④ Our intelligence must seem limited to you. 【 limited が持つ意味】
👉この limited という単語。limited というのは、基本的に「限られた」という話なんですが、
「膨大にあって、でも限られていますよ」というわけではないです。
▶︎基本的に「乏しい」とか「ない」
⑤ You humans need to have more confidence. 【同格】
👉さあ、you humans ２つの単語が並んでいますよね。同格です。「あなた方、人間」
というわけです。
Practice

▶︎ OK. It’s time for today’s practice. The core word in common with all these phrases
is “value.” We only have a few. So let’s go slow. Take our time, and master them together.

▶︎ Here’s our first.
・That restaurant is overrated nowadays.
Roza
▶︎ Let’s continue.
・You can’t judge a book by its cover.
