11月のテーマは、判断を表現する

私たちが日々行なっている、可能性や重要性、難易、優先などの判断を精度高く
表現することが目標です。

👉可能性① 助動詞・助動詞類を用いて確信を伝える
▶︎今回は、強い確信 – 高い可能性 – を表す助動詞・助動詞類を学びましょう。

会話の場面

登場人物

・デスパレート・ラッツのビル・バンガロー (Bill)
・バンドマネージャーのシンシア (Cynthia)

状況

・紆余曲折あって、シンシアがビルの新曲を聞いて、好感触を持ったようです。その着想は、日本の
漫画家から得たようですが ….

Opening で

Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. This is Akino Roza. How are you feeling about your English
studies? This lesson will be a success.

David
▶︎ Hi, everyone. And I’m David Evans. That’s right, folks. You’ll do great.
Just keep at it. Here we go!

Dialogue で

① The Desperate Rats are back on track!【 back on track の意味】
👉 back on track – これは「正しい方向に戻って」ということですね。
track – これは「道」あるいは「鉄道」などの「軌道」を表す単語です。
“もとのしっかりした軌道に戻って” ということですね。

② I got a lot from a Japanese cartoonist named Ashizuka Osamu.
【ここでの named<過去分詞>の意味】
👉さあ、ここで named Ashizuka Osamu とありますね。
「〜と名付けられた」「〜という名前の」というわけです。

③ All of the new songs are inspired by him.　【 inspire のニュアンス】
👉さあ、ここで are inspired という受動態が出てきましたね。この inspire という動詞の
イメージは「息を吹き込む」というわけです。そこから、「ひらめき・刺激・インスピレーション
を与える、着想を与える」という意味になっているわけですね。そして、ここでは受動態なので、
「着想を与えられている」というわけでしょう。

of confidence – must, should, has to. So use your accent to express your confidence
in the truth of these statements. OK?

▶︎ These phrases are short, so try to work on connecting the words as you practice.

David
▶︎ All right. Let’s jump in. Here’s our first.

▶︎ All right. And here’s one more using “has to.”
・That lady has to be the one in charge.
Do you hear how I emphasize “has to”? Really lean into it!

▶︎ Yes, yes. This is one of my own life experience. I made a batch of cookies with
my girlfriend in high school only to discover that we used salt instead of sugar.
It was a salty, salty experience.
