人をある方向に「動かす」言語活動の②です。

会話の場面

登場人物

・営業のヒロキ (Hiroki)
・不動産事務所にいるバーバラ (Barbara)

状況

・ヒロキがバーバラを訪れて、自分のマンションについてのアドバイスを求めます。

Opening で

Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. This is Akino Roza here. Ready for today’s lesson?

David
▶︎ And I’m David Evans. OK, everyone. Let’s get ready to go.

Dialogue で

① Thanks for coming today, Hiroki.【丸ごと覚える Thanks for coming.】
👉 Thanks for coming today – これは、もうまとめて覚える価値のある
フレーズですね。

② Well, I know you’re a real estate agent.【real estate agent の意味】
👉 real estate agent というフレーズが出てきました。「不動産業者」という
意味ですね。まとめて覚えておきましょう。

③ I need some advice about my condominium.【数えられない advice】
👉さあ、ここでは some がついているので advice と複数形になっていない形が
来ていますよね。もちろん、これが普通なんです。advice は「数えられれない名詞」
だからです。複数形にはならないんですね。

④ It’s a nice place, but I’m thinking about moving. 【think about の意味】
👉さあ、think about というフレーズが出てきましたよね。
「〜についてよく考える」というフレーズです。

▶︎ All right. Let’s start!

David
▶︎ Our first phrases here use “may.” You can say “may” nice and short to be
direct. Or you can stretch “may” out to be softer or show some hesitation.
But try both patterns together. Here’s the first.
・You may want to hurry up.
OK. Now let’s stretch that “may” to be a little softer.
・You may want to reconsider.
Do you feel the difference? Let’s try one more.
・You may want to take the time to really think about it.

Roza
▶︎ That was great, guys. Let’s move on.
・If I were you, I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
・If I were you, I wouldn’t give up.
・If I were you, I wouldn’t let this chance slip past.

David
▶︎ All right. Our next phrases use “don’t even.”
This is a strong suggestion. So let’s lean in to the verb here.
Don’t even try … OK? Let’s try.
・Don’t even try to fix this by yourself.
・Don’t even think of lying to me.

Roza
▶︎ You know what, David? I think we had enough of practice today.
