👉10月もひき続き前置詞の学習です。

👉 to のイメージ▶︎「到達点(を指し示す）」

Opening で

Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. Akino Roza here. Are you desperate to listen to
our program?

Chris
▶︎ Hey, everyone. I’m Chris McVay. Let’s put all our effort into
today’s program, OK?

Dialogue で

① My guest today is award-winning film director Doris Williams.
👉さあ、ここで award-winning film director Doris Williams というフレーズ
が出てきましたね。これは同格と呼ばれる形ですね。award-winning film director
という内容を Doris Williams で説明している、というわけです。
▶︎説明ルール – 説明は後ろに置く、がつくる形です。

② So, what did you think?
👉 What did you think? これはもちろん、What do you think? これの
過去形ですね。「どう思われましたか」というわけですね。
もう丸ごと覚えてみてくださいね。頻出フレーズです。

③ It was very nostalgic.
👉さあ、ここでは nostalgic という形容詞が出てきましたね。
「郷愁をさそうような・懐かしい」という形容詞です。
しっかりと覚えておきましょう。

④ I got to know them many years ago.
👉そして、got to すなわち get to というフレーズが使われていますね。
get to というのは、「どこそこに到着する」何か、そこへのプロセスが
感じられるフレーズですね。その「どこそこに到着する」と同時に、
「〜するようになる」「〜にする」という機会を得る、という使い方も
生み出しているわけです。
▶︎ここでは、「彼らを知るようになった」というわけです。
普通、英語で get to know them と言ったら、
彼らと実際に会い、そして話し合う – そうした所まで含まれるフレーズ
だということも頭の中に入れておきましょう。

⑤ The Desperate Rats are known to several generations.
👉 generation「世代」という単語が出てきましたね。
決して抜かすことなくしっかりと暗記してください。

After the Dialogue

▶︎ Hey, guys. You know, what else is really amazing?
Our textbook, of course.

Practice

Chris
▶︎ OK, guys. Practice time.
So we’re going to start practicing “to.” Now this is a very, very basic image.
It’s just pointing to something or “shu 〜” – you can imagine “an arrow”
zooming to this point. So with that in mind, let’s practice together.

Roza
▶︎ That’s right. And remember to think in English.

Chris
▶︎ Here we go!
・went to London
・went to my hometown
・walk to the station
You can see it’s very easy – pointing to the station. So “to.”
・walk to the station
Similarly, the next one.
・run – to – the bus stop
・run to the bus stop
And one more.
・get to Phoenix

Roza
▶︎ Continuing on.
・known to many generations
Here too, you can imagine “known to – arrow – many generations.”
Let’s try. One more time.
・known to many generations
Next one.
・He is kind to ladies.
He is kind to who? to ladies – you’re pointing at the ladies, right?
・He is kind to ladies.
・He is polite to ladies.
