「日本語を経由せず、英語を使う力」を養います。
Lesson 71 would like・want のイメージ
👉 want のイメージは「欠けている」欠けているためそれを満たしたいという欲求
👉 would like は、want の控えめな大人表現
Opening で

how do you like your steak?
Roza
▶︎ Ummm. I like my steak medium-rare.
Chris
▶︎ Ah, do you know how I like my steak?
Roza
▶︎ How’s that?
Chris
▶︎ I like blue.
※ blue は「肉の焼き加減」の表現
Dialogue で
① I’m so hungry after walking around Nikko Toshogu today.
👉さあ、after の後ろに walking が使われていますよね。
前置詞の後ろは、動詞 ing形が用いられます。
👉そして walk around これは「歩きまわる」というフレーズ
② Mr. Emori, how did you find this restaurant?
👉 この how – これは「やり方・方法」を表す wh語です。
③ Not many tourists know about it.
👉 not many「それほど多くは〜ない」というフレーズですね。
しっかりとですね、覚えてみてくださいね。
④ I’d like my steak medium-rare.
👉さあ、opening でクリスさんがですね、blue とおっしゃいましたね。
これは rare よりも、更に生っぽい – そうした焼き方ですよね。
肉をちょんちょんと焼いただけ、そうしhしたステーキの焼き方を blue と
言います。

Now I know some of you are interested in etymology.
So the original meaning of “want” is to be lacking.
So this naturally leads to the meaning of a strong desire to get what is lacking.
So with that in mind, let’s practice together. OK?

So this is a kind of relationship thing, right?
The person you love is gone away. You say, “Ah, I want you back.”
