Lesson ４１ run のイメージ
👉 run のイメージ「スピーディに・線上を走る動き」を表す
Opening で
Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. Akino Roza here.
Chris
▶︎ Hi, guys. Chris McVay here. Roza, I fancy ramen for lunch today.
Roza
▶︎ I know a great place. It’ll be exactly your cup of tea.
Oh, I mean “ramen.”
Dialogue で
① the new page
👉もちろん、website のページということですね。
② my sister’s Carolyn’s business
👉そして、このフレーズが出てきましたが、このビジネス、結局のところ
– キャロリンのお店を示しているわけですけれども、まあ、
ビジネスはビジネスですよね。
③ You mean she doesn’t use any animal products?
👉さあ、この出だしですね、相手に真意を確かめるためのフレーズです。
しっかり覚えておきましょう。
④ I’ve heard of it, ….
👉「聞いたことがある」という表現ですね。hear of これは、
「耳にする」程度の聞き方を表すフレーズです。
⑤ You mean your cup of ramen.
👉さあ、前の発言で cup of tea「好み」という表現が出てきたので、
それをもじって、cup of ramen と言ってるわけです。
⑥ Anyway, I’d like to go to Japan someday soon.
👉さあ、anyway という単語が出てきましたが、これは、
「今まで述べられてきたこと、文脈をですね、全て帳消しにする」感触をもつ単語です。「とにかく」というわけです。

▶︎ OK, guys. It’s time to practice. Now here we want you to grasp
the basic image of “run,” which has two parts.
One is speedy motion – speed. And the other “along a line.”
Let’s practice with that in our minds.
・The buses run every 20 minutes.
You can feel the line with the buses are passing through fast, fast, fast.
So after me.
・The buses run every 20 minutes.
And the same for trains.
・The trains run every 20 minutes.

▶︎ Here are some more examples.
・The road runs around the campus.
・The path runs around the campus.
And one more.
・The fence runs around the campus.

▶︎ OK. Let’s move on.
This one.
・Time is running short.
Here we’ve got the same feeling of “speed” and “on a line,” plus
“the idea of change.”
The normal length of time has changed to a short length.
So here we go. After me.

▶︎ And these last three have the “run” nuance.
・run a program / run a machine / run an engine
