Opening

Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. Akino Roza here. Guess what?
I got Chris to bake me a cake. He’s so sweet and kind.

Chris
▶︎ Hi , guys. Chris McVay here. I was about to say,
“you’re so sweet and kind.”

Roza
▶︎ OH!

Chris
▶︎ But I was only practicing.

Dialogue で

① You really named him Frankie?
👉さあ、ここで name という動詞、「名づける」という動詞が出てきました。
そして、この文の形は目的語説明型です。
▶︎ him と Frankie の間に「イコール」の関係がありますよね。
「彼をフランキーと名づけました」というわけです。

② I’m glad to hear that.
👉もう文全体を覚えていただきたい – そうした文ですね。
▶︎ですが、最初は分解しておきましょう。
I’m glad 「うれしい」- その原因を to hear that が説明している、
という形なんですね。I’m glad の後ろに to 不定詞が置かれているので、
説明関係が生じてます。説明ルールの形ですよね。
「それを聞いて – うれしい」というわけです。

③ I will, Dr. Frank N. Stein.
👉さあ、ここでは I will とだけ答えていますよね。
もちろん、これは “I will teach him everything I learned from you.”
まあ、そうした長い文が隠れているわけですが、文脈から明らかに
わかることをクドクド繰り返すと、やはり会話はあまりテンポよくは
進まないですね。このように、I will – 助動詞で留める、このテクニックを
学んでおきましょう。

④ refrigerator
👉ここでは、「冷蔵庫」として refrigerator という単語が使われましたが、
長い単語ですので、多くの人は fridge と短いバージョンを使うようですよ。
こちらも覚えておいてくださいね。

⑤ Apparently so!
👉 apparently という単語が出てきました。
まあ、「見るからに」「どう見ても〜らしい」そうしたニュアンスで
使います。

▶︎ OK, guys. Let’s have our last practice of “get.”
Now keep in mind the basic image “motion,” “some process.”
And this naturally leads to the meaning of pushing someone or
something towards a target situation.
OK. So let’s try that together.

Roza
▶ And remember! Only use in English.

Chris
▶︎ so get him to help me
There’s a process involved. You know, you debate, you discuss with
a person – Pong – you got him. After me.
・get him to help me
Good, and the next one is the same.
・get her to babysit
Try. And the final one.
・get her to translate it into English

Roza
▶︎ And some more examples.
・get the suitcase into the car
So here you an imagine the pushing the suitcase to – the target situation –
in the car.
The next example is the same thing. Try together.
・get the bicycle into the garage

▶︎ OK. And another one.
・get dinner ready
One more time.
・get dinner ready

▶︎ And the last two.
・get my homework done
get to the target situation of my homework done
・get my homework done
And last one. Same thing here.
