👉２月号のテーマは「受動態・比較」。
– 今まで学んだ配置の知識を使って表現の場を広げていきます。

▶︎先週で、「受動態」の学習は終了し、
今週からは、「比較」について学びます。

Lesson 21２比較②：as 〜 as … の使い方

Opening で

Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. Akino Roza here. Today’s opening was
not as good as yesterday’s opening, Sensei.

Chris
▶︎ Hi, guys. Chris McVay here. Roza, I want to eat
something sweet. Do you have any Belgian chocolates?

Roza
▶︎ I have some Japanese chocolates. But they are as good
as fine Belgian chocolates.

Chris
▶︎ Good as long as they are, as good as fine Belgian chocolates,
that’s OK.

Dialogue で

① Ask away!
👉ちょっとお二人に、そのニュアンスを聞いてみましょうか。
▶︎ So, what’s the nuance of “ask away” here?

Roza
▶︎ Well, I think it’s kind of like just “go ahead and ask
as much as you want.”

Chris
▶︎ Yeah, don’t hold back, feel free.
It’s a bit like, you know, a boat which is tied to the jetty,
you untie the knot and huh ー！ Off the boat goes!

Roza
▶︎ Yeah, (it) really has that feeling of “huh ー！”

② a box of luxury chocolates
👉「贅沢な」あるは「豪華な」そうした単語が出てきました。
この単語の中には lux という部分がありますね。これが、
「光」をもともと表しているわけです。-「光り輝くような」
という所から、そういうニュアンスが生まれてr

③ I’m not sure which ones to get.
👉 I’m not sure「確信がもてない」というわけですね。
「何に確信がもてないのか」を後ろで説明しています – which ones
「どちらのものを」to get「選ぶべきか」
※しっかりと全文を覚えておきましょう。

④ Can I see the prices?
👉この Can I see 〜？「私は見ることができますか」というわけです。
「見ていい？」っていう気軽な表現です。

⑤ it looks like he’s running as fast as a cheetah!
👉 it looks like「〜のように見える」というわけです。
そしてこの like の後ろには、フルセンテンスがこの文のように来れることも
確認しておきましょう。

▶︎ OK, guys. Let’s practice the key sentence together.
Now, I think a lot of listeners perhaps have a problem with “as good as,”
because maybe you tend to put a pause between “as good as.”
So you think of it as separate words, right?
So my advice is “Don’t stop between those words. Connect them,
make them flow.”

As good as, as good as. Got it?
OK. Now let’s practice the key sentence.
