👉２月は、1月に引き続き接続詞ついて学習します。

Lesson 212 時のフロー①

before ▶︎出来事の順序関係のフローを作る重要な表現

Opening で

▶︎ Hi, guys. Akino Roza here. Are you ready for today’s lesson?

Chris
▶︎ Hi, guys. Chris McVay here. Sorry, I’ll just go to the restroom
before we start, OK?

Roza
▶︎ You can.

Chris
▶︎ I’m just practicing.

Dialogue

① Grandpa, we’re finally going to Shakespear’s birthplace today.
👉さあ、finally 「ついに、とうとう」という単語が出てきました。
「長い時間をかけて」あるいは「様々なプロセスの後に」等々、そうした感触が
漂っていますよね、この単語には。

② I‘d like to see that movie.
👉さあ、ここの I’d like to これは I would like to ですね。
would like to – これは、 want to の言い換えとして存在する表現ですが、
want to というのは、「〜したい」という少し何か生々しい感じがするんですね。
その「生々しさ」からしっかりと距離をとる感じで使われるのが、この
would like to という表現。しっかりと覚えておきましょう。
大人の英語です。

③ Anyway, I’ll just go to the restroom before we leave.
👉さあ、ここの anyway ですね。「それはさておき」今までの、その会話で
行われた – そうした内容を全部きれいにして、別の話を始める、そうした
タイミングで使われる表現です。
しっかりと覚えておきましょう。

Practice

▶︎ OK, guys. Are you ready to practice?
Today let’s look at some prepositions, like “before,” “after,” “until,” “since”
that are used to connect sentences. OK? That’s the key – connecting
sentences. So here we go!
・I couldn’t move after I had spent five hours planting rice.
OK. So “after” and followed a full sentence – the two sentences
are connected using “after.” Once more.
・I couldn’t move after I had spent five hours planting rice.

▶︎ OK. Our next example will use “util.”
・I’ll take care of your medaka until you come back.
Do you see the connection there?
“I’ll take care of your medaka,” “you come back.”
And “until” links them. Let’s try one more time.
・I’ll take care of your medaka until you come back.

Chris
▶︎ OK. Once more.
・It’s been four years since we last met.
Try that again.
・It’s been four years since we last met.
