前置詞の勉強を続けます。

👉 by のイメージ▶︎「近接(〜の近く・そば)」の位置関係を表す

Opening で

Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. Akino Roza here.

Chris
▶︎ Hi, guys. Chris McVay here. Welcome to Wednesday’s lesson.
AH! Oops! It’s Monday. I made another mistake. Sorry!

Dialogue で

① There are no mistakes in oil paintings.
👉 no mistakes – no というのは非常に強く、「全くない、ゼロ」と否定する
単語ですね。しっかりと覚えておきましょう。

② You’re so wise, Bob.
👉さあ、ここに出てきた形容詞の wise「賢い」と訳される単語ですけれど、
その「賢さ」というのは、「人生の経験を通じて得た」タイプの「賢さ」
であるため、ボブ先生の年齢が何となく分かりますよね。

③ It sure does.
👉さあ、ここで sure という単語が出てきました。
もちろん副詞の働きをしていますから、It surely does. – こちらでも結構なわけです。
しかし、もうこの動詞句の前に置かれたら、これはもう動詞を修飾するということが、
わかりきっているため、-ly は省略しても構わないんです。

④ So, how can I fix my painting?
👉さあ、そしてこの fix という動詞が出てきました。
もともと「固定する」という意味の動詞ですけれど、「壊れているものというのは、
部品がバラバラっと」している感触がするわけですね。
従って、「固定する」で「直す」という使い方が生まれているわけです。

⑤ I would put a little log cabin by the lake there.
👉ここの would ですね、「もし私だったら」という仮定条件が
織り込まれている「〜でしょうね」という表現です。

⑥ Can you show me how?
👉さあ、how は「やり方・方法」というわけですね。
１語でそうしたことを表すことができる。
覚えてといておきましょう。便利です。
