Lesson 72 wish・hope のイメージ
👉 hope の基本イメージ「望む・期待する」リポート文で頻繁に使われる
👉 wish の基本イメージ – hope と異なり現実感のあまりない希望・願いを表す
Opening で
Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. Akino Roza here. I hope we have a great lesson.

▶︎ Roza, that’s what I was gonna say, all right?

Dialogue で
① This is a dream come true.
👉さあ、This is a dream come true. という文が出てきましたね。
dream come true これは「長年の夢の実現」という意味ですね。
それに a がついて This is a dream come true. となっているわけですね。
② I’ve arranged to meet some friends that afternoon,
👉さあ、I’ve already arranged と言っていましたね。
arrange – これは「手はずを整える」あるいは「予定にしている」という
表現です。
Practice

▶︎ OK, guys. Are you ready to practice?
“Hope”, “wish” both mean something you want to happen.
But “hope” is for something that’s quite possible to realize
while “wish” is usually used for something up in the clouds or
impossible to realize.
So with that distinction in mind, let’s practice together.
Here we go!
・Let’s hope 〜.
・I hope you don’t mind my saying this.
・I hope you don’t mind if I talk this call.
・I was hoping that 〜.

・I hope to see you again.
It’s possible, right? I can see you again. So “hope” is great here.
・I hope to see you again.

▶︎ I wish I could go with you.
But you know, it’s not possible because you have another plan.
So “wish” is great here. After me, once more.
・I wish I could go with you.

▶︎ And our last examples.
・I wish you good luck.
・I wish to thank you.
