4月のテーマは基本動詞①

👉今年度は…
会話で頻用される表現のイメージをつかみ、
「日本語を経由せず、英語を使う」力を養います。
・基本動詞
・前置詞
・形容詞
などへとゆっくり進めていきます。

◎基本動詞とは
▶︎日常頻繁に使われる動詞のこと
– こうした動詞は極端に単純な意味を持つため、無数の状況と日本語訳に
対応します。
そのため基本動詞の学習は、

シンプルなイメージ(中核となる意味・ニュアンス)をつかみ、それがどういった
状況に使われるのかをつぶさに理解し頭に入れることが必要

👉 put のイメージは、「何かを・どこかに・ポンと移動する」

Opening で

Onishi
▶︎ That’s the Desperate Rats Spirit.

Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. Akino Roza here.

Chris
▶︎ Hi, guys. Chris McVay here. You know, having to think of
some amazing opening, it just puts too much pressure on me.
Ha ー！

Dialogue で

① Do you have a moment?
👉このような簡単な決まり文句。
しっかりと覚えましょう。

② Here, why don’t you come under my umbrella?
👉ここでは、why don’t you 〜? 「〜しませんか」という意味ですね。
軽い提案を表すフレーズです。しっかり覚えましょう。

③ What’s up?
👉「何が盛り上がったのか」という感触で up が使われています。
「どうしたんですか」という決まり文句です。

④ Yeah, she’s the one who □ made that tap-dancing musical, 〜?
👉関係代名詞節による修飾が行われています。
who の後ろに made の主語がありませんね。ここが空所です。
この空所になっている主語と the one が結びついて、
「タップダンスのミュージカルを作った – 人」という、修飾関係が
生まれているわけです。

⑤ 〜, right?
👉そして文末の , right? これは「ちょこっと疑問文」ですね。
疑問文を作るときには、大上段に構えて疑問形を使う必要は、
必ずしもないんですよね。 right ? とか、don’t you think? とか
huh? とかですね、さまざまなちょこっと疑問文は存在します。
みなさんも練習してみてください。

⑥ So, you agree to the idea?
👉 idea あるいは意見などに賛成するというわけですね。
前置詞の to を用いて、agree to 〜としてみてください。

⑦ I’m sure it won’t.
👉さあここでは、リポート文の形が出てきました。
I’m sure の内容を it won’t – 後ろの節が説明する形です。
▶︎もちろん it won’t は省略した形です。
it won’t put too much pressure on the band ということです。
◎くどくどわかりきっている内容を繰り返すというのはですね、
会話のリズムを殺してしまうんですね。省略上手は会話上手というわけです。
しっかりとこの省略の感触、学んでみてください。

After the Dialogue

▶︎ Well, I guess we have a pretty tight schedule to write the textbook.
So this puts pressure on me. But the end result makes it all worthwhile.

Practice

▶︎ OK. Are you ready to practice?
We’re going to practice “put” for the second time.
Now the first time we talked about the variety of usages.
And let’s continue a bit long the same road, because “put” is not
limited to concrete things on concrete services.
I put the plates on the shelf. It can be used for abstract things,
like plan or blame or emphasis or pressure as in the key sentence.
So let’s practice this type. Here we go!

▶︎ put emphasis on social status – Try!
Emphasis, we can’t touch, right? It’s abstract. And it’s perfect with “put.”
