2月のテーマは接続詞　発言の流れを作る

👉２月は、1月に引き続き接続詞ついて学習します。

Lesson 207 主要接続詞⑩：ifー二択

リポート文での if節 ▶︎「〜かどうか」と二択を表す使い方
※この使い方は「条件」とは無縁ではない
– 「もし〜なら」という条件は「そうでない」場合も連想させる＝二択につながる

Opening で

▶︎ I’m Chris McVay.

Dialogue

① He’s just going through a phrase.
👉さあ、ここでは going through a phase「phase を通っている」というような
言い方が出てきましたね。この phase と言う単語、ここでは「時期」と訳しましたが、
Roza さん、もう少し詳しくご説明していただけますか。
Roza
▶︎ So for me, the image of “a phase” is kind of like “a tunnel” with some
specific characteristic. So for Frankie it’s spending almost all his time
with his new friends.
Chris
▶︎ It’s like a period of time when you focus on one particular thing.
And that will change after the period of time comes to the end.
You move on to a next phase, and a next phase.

② I’m tired of being lonely.
👉さあ、ここで I’m tired of – being tired of というですね、「〜にうんざりする」
というフレーズが出てきましたね。

③ Ask him if he wants to go on a trip with you.
👉 go on a trip – on a trip というわけですね。何か活動のステージのような
ものが想像されており、その上を進んでいく感触ですね。「旅行に行く」という
わけです。

④ How about another country?
👉 How about 〜？は「〜はどうですか」軽い提案を表す、非常に使い勝手がいい
フレーズです。How about 〜？ここでは、その後に名詞が使われていますよね。
こういう使い方を慣れておきましょう。

⑤ I heard Japan is interesting.
👉そして、その次の I heard から始まる文はリポート文の形です。
「私は聞きました」そして、その内容を後ろに置いた that 節が説明する、
「説明ルール – 説明は後ろに置く」の形です。

Let’s continue looking at the word “if.” This time we’re looking at “if”
introducing some kind of choice. – You are, or you’re not. You can, or
you can’t, for example.
Let’s do lots of examples together. OK? Here we go!

・Let me know if you can help me.
・Let me know if you can come to my party.

▶︎ The next example is easy.
・I can’t tell if it’s real or not.
So maybe the person is looking at a diamond, or something, right?
Let’s try one more time.

▶︎ OK. A couple more.
・I wonder if he still loves me.
So choice – “love me” or “doesn’t love me.” One more.
・I wonder if he still loves me.
Last one.
・I was wondering if he could help me with my report. ×２
