Lesson 4６目的語の拡張②：動詞-ing形

▶︎英語は「配置の言葉」
– 語順は「基本文型」と「修飾語順規則」によって決まる。
– Lesson 1 から 9 までは「修飾語順規則」を扱いました。

▶︎Lesson 11 からは Lesson 40までは
「基本文型」の基本を学んできました。

👉今週からは、基本文型を使いこなすために、
節・to不定詞・動詞-ing形・動詞原形・過去分詞の拡張を扱っていきます。
▶︎今回は「目的語の拡張」の２回目に入ります。

Opening で

さあ、今日は初めての歯磨きネタですね。

[モグモグ] Sorry, my mouth was full of
toothpaste. Hey, everyone. Akino Roza
here. Let’s have a great lesson.

Are you making fun of me, Chris?

No, my mouth is full of toothpaste

👉〜をからかう

Dialogue で

① in private「内緒で、内密で」
👉なぜ “in” が使われるのかというと、それは
「プライベートというやり方、その中で」というわけです。

② bother「困惑させる」
👉これは、トラブルが思い起こされる単語です。ここでは、
「心のトラブル」ですね。「気になる、腹ただしく思わせる」
そうしたニュアンスで使われています。

③ then
👉「それでは、その時、それから」など、様々な日本語訳に
対応しますが、基本的には、
「視線が移動すること」を表します。
▶︎ここでは、「他の人たちは、コーヒマグを洗うのにキッチンシンクを
使うんだよ」と「他の場所で歯を磨いてください」なんて言われて、
「それならどこで歯を磨けばいいですか」と言って、「視線が移る」
ーその感触を捉えたのが、この then という単語なんです。

④ How about 〜？
👉軽い提案、あるいは相手の意見を求める時に使われるフレーズ。
以前、この後ろにはフルセンテンスが使われていましたよね。
今回は、動詞-ing形が使われています。様々な形が使える、非常に
便利な形です。

Now as always we want you to grasp a native speaker feeling here.
And what is it? Well, if you hear or say, “Can you stop 〜?”
you automatically imagine something lively, something real happening.
That’s why it’s natural to use the ing form.
